The contact's husband who owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while her husband was reversing to complete a 3-point turn, the brakes failed to respond while the brake pedal was depressed, causing the vehicle to drive into a ditch and then crashed into a large boulder alongside the driveway. The contact stated that the pre-crash alert illuminated prior to the crash. The rear passenger's side bumper was damaged, and wires were hanging down. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where the contact was informed that no brake failure was found. The contact stated that the insurance company had inspected the vehicle. The driver had emotional distress and might have sustained a bruise. The failure mileage was approximately 46,100.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at 6 MPH, the brakes were grabbing. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V380000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure related to the recall. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was approximately 9,805.
Despite having the Tsb done to fix the Grabby Brakes problem, it is now worse. The brakes now have a void zone in the pedal travel, which makes these brakes even trickier to use. Also when the brakes grab about 1/2 the time it also makes the vehicle steer to the right. On the enclosed photo this was the damage done to my vehicle when pulling into the garage, when the brakes grabbed and pulled the vehicle to the right. In summary this is a problem which needs to be fixed before the brakes grab and pull me into another vehicle in a tight parking scenario. God forbid the brakes would cause my vehicle to veer into a person standing nearby. In summary the brakes are not something I can rely on with confidence.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes were grabbing, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a software update under an unknown TSB; however, the failure persisted. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no additional assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20.
I, and many other 2022 Hybrid Ford Maverick owners have noted that the braking system in this vehicle is very inconsistent when at very low speeds. When approaching a full stop, the relatively linear (relatively smooth) feedback of increasing brake pedal input suddenly transitions to a very hard jerky stop near the end of the braking. This does not always occur, but most often it does, and one has to either guess or interpret when that will happen and release pressure brake pedal at just the right moment and then repress is very very gently to come to a smooth stop. This affect also makes stop and go driving extremely annoying. …
I was driving East on Rte 70 near Mt. Airy, MD at approximately 2 am the morning of Sunday, Oc. 11. at approximately 65 mph. In and instant all power to the vehicle went dead. The engine stopped and all electrical components went dead. Most importantly, my lights went out, the power steering was inoperable, and the brakes went out. It was absolutely terrifying. Because of the lack of brakes, I narrowly avoided colliding with an 18-wheeler. I was able to pull the car off the road on the right side and allow the vehicle to drift to a stop (again, no brakes) over the course of 1/4 - 1/2 mile. I called a tow truck. They towed the vehicle to Apple Ford in Columbia, MD. I am told by the Dealer that this most likely an issue with the battery wiring harness, and that Ford is aware of the issue. It's unfathomable to me that Ford would not issue a recall for this extraordinarily dangerous issue. …
The low braking system on the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is irregular and unpredictable. In stop-and-go traffic (sub 10mph), the braking system can either give you too much or too little brakes, resulting in the vehicle's brakes automatically grabbing and producing a jarring stop. This can be noticed when pulling in to a parking spot, slowly moving to a stop at a red light or slowly driving through a parking lot. The safety risk is a wreck waiting to happen that could injure the passengers as well as nearby cars and/or pedestrians. In winter driving (which is due soon where I live), the lack of a reliable braking system could spell even more trouble. This issue seems to finally be acknowledged by Ford via SSM 51142 but not externally to the general public. …
While driving in traffic on the highway at about 20-30 mph, traffic in my lane slowed further. In response, I applied what should have been an adequate amount of brake pressure to slow down and stop if needed given the following distance I had left. Initially I progressively applying more braking pressure, but after a ~3 seconds of this I slammed the brake down. Instead, the vehicle did not slow as expected in the following ~5 seconds. Despite having slammed on the brake at that point, the vehicle only then showed the emergency braking alert and emergency braked in addition to my foot being fully down on the brake. However, this was too late as my passenger and I rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma. They and myself have filed against my insurance, so there is an accident on my car report that I know has depreciated my new vehicle's value. …
Breaks not responding or working correctly at low speed... At low speed the break pedal will suddenly become "soft" and vehicle will surge forward until the break pedal is moved a significant distance downward in some cases causing a very abrupt stop from having to slam on the breaks. The other situation during slow speed is that the breaks will suddenly stop short and hard. Then you will need to release the break to move forward causing the above situation to occur where the break pedal becomes soft and takes a lot of downward travel to achieve the same level of breaking. I am an experienced driver of many years and have owned or rented hybrids and EV's and none have had breaks that responded as dangerously as the 2022 Ford Maverick. …
The brakes are hesitant to stop while creeping forwards, then they slam on. There is also a clunking noise when stopping, usually hear it around the last five ft of the stopping distance. I have 11k miles and just needed to replace the transmission. I lost acceleration while on the highway, no warnings or engine light until a few hours after this happened. Dealer stated that this was the transmission. The truck would also almost lock in place while in drive and not level (like at a red light). It would not let go for a few seconds after releasing the brake pedal. I was also told this was the transmission. After the transmission was replaced, the same day, my engine started making a very loud clunking noise and lurching forward while parked in the driveway. This is the Hybrid version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. This is unsafe in general. …
