Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
I was leaving the parking lot to the stop sign and I applied the brakes and my vehicle continued rolling even when I applied more pressure until it stopped in the middle of the intersection. I was not hit but close. I pulled over to the side of the street and brakes seem to be working again. I took it straight to a wheel and brake shop very close to where this happen and they check the system and told me what had cause this problem was the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump to the brake booster was collapsing so I had them replace it. I went to your web site and found a recall #NHTSA 97V068000 for this problem so I called daimlerchrysler and they told me that this recall did not include my vehicle and they would not take care of this problem. I don't understand why it should not cover all the vehicle's with this problem.
I have a long history of reporting serious major safety component problems and failures to Chrysler on both of my vehicles. My vehicles have been in three accidents resulting from failed safety components. Each time after the accident, the dealer was able to find the problem and correct it. However, this has never happened before the accident. In the case of the brake line failure it involves every 1195 br2500 hd pickup truck. Chrysler found and corrected the problem at some point because the replacement part is designed to reduce the bends which cause the line to rub against the wheel rim on turns. I have experienced thousands of dollars in damages that were caused by Chrysler. How do I get my money back?
Dt*: the contact stated faulty vacuum hose from engine's internal vacuum pump to the power brake unit. Under light continual pressure on brake pedal the vehicle would stop. Under sudden or heavy pressure, the pedal would go to the floor, and vehicle would stop when it decided to do so. It would not lock or make an emergency stop. Visual confirmation of the vacuum hose collapse. Was easy with hood open, engine operating, and pressure applied to the brake pedal. Updated 06/05/2006.
While backing out of a garage brakes failed to engage, allowing brake pedal to go all the way to the floor. Poor performance of brake system caused vehicle to back into a car, causing $700 damage. Consumer was informed that front left wheel bearing was in poor condition. Please provide any additional information/attachments. Technician replaced r&r left frony wheel bearing, hub and rotor assembly, the brakes are wearing more on indoard pad, left front tire is worn on the inside. Nlm
In an emergancy situation I have hit the brakes hard! I hear a click or snap and it feels like the brakes are wet or they oil on them, it just keeps going I have gone off the road on the shoulder and also into the ditch a couple of times to avoid the vehicle in front of me. I pull a 5th wheel often so far it hasn't happened when I have had the tlr....but I am afraid that if it I am pulling the 5th wheel and it happens somebody May be injured or even worse killed, I am very concerned..
Tl contact owns a 1995 Dodge pickup. The rear drum brakes do not adjust properly. The front brakes do the majority of the braking and causes the front brakes to overheat and be overused. The rear brakes have to be manually adjusted. The contact refuses to take the vehicle to the dealer. The current mileage was 300,000 and failure mileage was 103,000. Updated 11/14/07.
This vehicle experienced the problem as described in the brake drum and shoe system recall 97V068000, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. This problem occured more when the vehicle is in reverse gear and on an incline to the rear (like backing down a boat ramp). This problem has also occurred when stopped at a red light in the city.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle does not stop correctly or safely. The dealership determined this was because the vacuum motor does not have the proper check valve. The brake pedal becomes very hard and lacks power assist, increasing the stopping distance. The brake light illuminated on the dash each time this occurred. Updated 5/30/06
Tl* the contact owns a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while performing routine brake maintenance, he discovered that the keeper pin failed, causing the brakes to fail. The contact personally confirmed the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 226,000.
Sound pad to close to the exaust pipe header on 5.9 cum. Diesel engine. Brakes are very bad if you have to stop quick. Frount wheels lock up in normal braking on wet road and in hard stops with a load or trailer rear brakes are worthless. Trans mission lines rub together wearing holes in the in the lines
