What owners report
In August 2004 we bought a 2004 Dodge Intrepid with 17,000 miles from a Dodge dealer. In September 2005 the vehicle started experiencing hesitation and stuttering at start up when the temperature fell below 40 degrees. Took it to the dealership and the mechanic said it was the crank sensor, which was replaced under warranty. Problem didn't go away. In November 2005 took the car back to the dealership. At that time the cam sensor was replaced under warranty. Some improvement was noticed. In October 2007 the dash lights started to flicker. This happened whether the car was driving or at a standstill. Back to the dealership. They said it was probably the battery. We agreed to pay for a new battery and left the car there while the battery was being replaced. The dealership test drove the car and the lights still flickered. …
On 11/18/04 my vehicle stalled after crossing 3 lanes of traffic on a heavily traveled street. I managed to get the vehicle to a side street before I was completely unable to maneuver it, where I was able to start it again. The vehicle was towed to a dealership and the cam sensor was replaced the next day. Ihave had no problems until approximately 01/28/05, when the vehicle starting having a hesitation when I accelerated. Today (2/1/05) I got in my car to run an errand and the check engine light was on, which immediately alarmed me. I took the vehicle to a parts store and had them do a check, the results were: the cam sensor. This makes 2 times in 10 weeks that I have had to take my vehicle in to be serviced. I am currently drivinga borrowed vehicle until mine is "fixed".
Tl contact owns a 2003 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 55 MPH, an unknown light illuminated on the instrumental panel. The contact drove onto the emergency lane, turned off the vehicle and noticed smoke and fire coming from the engine compartment. The fire and police department were contacted and reports were filed. There were damages to the wiring harness and the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the insurance company. The dealer was contacted and stated that there were no recalls for her vehicle. The contact does not know what caused the fire to occur. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 149,000.
The vehicle leaked transmission fluid. Also, while driving the vehicle, it would shift very hard. The RPM revved very high. Upon turning the vehicle off, the consumer was unable to restart it. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on four different occasions and was told that it was an internal electrical problem. Please provide any further information.
Immediate loss of vehicle power..car went dead and immediately started to smoke and within seconds the engine compartment was up in flames. Vehicle did not overheat.. Engine compartment suffered major fire damage, insurance company investigation still pending.
We bought a 2002 used in 2005. It ran okay, thoughe h the oil pressure light and engine light would come on when idling. We were assured by the dealer we bought it from that it was just sensor and not to worry. Had some small problems with it, nothing too major. They just seemed to happen all the time. Then in 3/09 the alternator and water pump went out for the 2nd time, and even after repair the car would over heat out of no where and without warning. Continued to have the problems with the oil pressure light and engine light. Should have gotten rid of it then, but didn't have the money for a new car. Then in 11/09 the car did the overheat for no reason while my husband was going 70 MPH on the highway, thank god there wasn't an accident. The gauges didn't indicate anything, all of them including the spedometer went to 0. It started gushing water and antifreeze. …
When driving down the road at night, the vehicle loses all function and power. When this occurs I have no power steering, lights, brakes, nothing. It flickers on and off like that multiple times. It took me 1 1/2 hours to drive home, which should have taken only half hour. This is a serious safety issue. I can't drive the vehicle now in fear that I will be in an accident. This appears to be an ongoing issue with Dodge vehicles. I can't drive my van in fear it will end up killing myself, my family, or some innocent person on the roadway. This needs to be addressed. A recall is needed to find this ongoing issue. There isn't a specific date but a constant issue.
