Tl contact owns a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. When purchasing the vehicle, the dealer would not allow the contact to inspect its undercarriage. Afterwards, the contact had the vehicle inspected and a mechanic informed him that all of the mcpherson struts, the windshield wiper switch, the brakes, and all four rotors needed to be replaced. He further stated that there was excessive fluid in the transmission, which caused the vehicle to shift hard and drive roughly. The failure mileage was 54,000 and current mileage was 73,000. Updated 03-27-08 the brake lights stayed on when the vehicle was shut off. There was a problem with the wiring for the parking lights and headlights. Updated
Tl contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid. The contact purchased the vehicle in February of 2008. Three days later, the shifter cable failed without warning. The dealer replaced the component. In approximately April of 2008, the ignition switch failed and was also covered by the dealer. In addition, the driver's side window would not roll back up properly. A month ago, the vehicle shut off and was taken to the dealer. The contact was informed that the vehicle's computer system had completely failed. The computer system was replaced at the contact's expense. The connector rod in the engine snapped, which caused the engine to fail. Currently, the vehicle is inoperable. The contact feels that the failures were due to manufacturer defects. The failure mileage was 98,000. Updated 07/01/09 the PCM was replaced. Updated 07/02/09.
Every owner of a newer model Dodge Intrepid that I have spoken to has problems with the power window on the drivers side. Several of these Intrepid owers had to pay several hundreds of dollars to have this problem fixed and I think it is a manufaturer's defect and this should be considered for a recall.
Engine in 2000 Chrysler Intrepid started tapping noise at 58017km brought to dealer with complaint, told they would not take engine apart to check noise. I told them I had been told that the 2.7 engine had problems with sludge that prevented the oil from circulating properly. They still refused to check engine. At just over 62000 km engine became noisy. Brought it back to dealer who kept the car for two weeks, then told me engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $6500.00 and there would be no warranty coverage or goodwill. I gave them a complete history of maintenance records showing that proper maintenance was done with in the required mileage and time. They have told me that the invoices do not clearly identify my 2000 black Intrepid and that it could of been another car. I only own one 2000 Intrepid. The invoice shows the work the mileage and my name and date. …
Dt: there is an issue with the automatic front driver/passenger door locks, two of them have stopped operating-they can be locked and unlocked manually, but they do not unlock with the keyless entry. While driving down the road, the door locks lock makes a scary shrill noise that frightens passengers as well as the driver. Took vehicle to a dealer and they offered to replace the locks but it would be at the consumer's expense. Consumer did replace one of the door lock mechanisms, this was on the driver's door. No problems since the repair of that door lock. No explanation as to why the door lock has stopped operating. Consumer has not contacted Chrysler corp on this issue at this time. Both front power windows have stopped operating as well, the power will raise window up and down but the window glass is off track. …
The driver's side power window didn't go down, the passenger's side power window operates intermittently. The window motor must be replaced. The anti-lock brakes were inoperative, and Dodge neglected to repair an oil valve which caused the engine to fail. The vehicle was involved in a fender bender after the leaving the dealership, the consumer believed it was due to the anti-lock brakes.
Bought 3 years ago used, it had emissions issues with the original engine. At about 74,000 miles the engine block cracked. Engine design does not allow for it to cool itself properly while running and results in the oil burning within before the engine can circulate it which finally results in the "sludge" that so many owners have a problem with and only perseverant the high heat issue as less oil is circulated to cool the engine. My engine's block cracked providing evidence of the engine getting too hot with no gauge warning of overheating because it is "overheating" within the system before it gets to the sensor etc, therefore it is not a poor maintenance issue but poor design and manufacturing. With a "rebuilt" engine it shakes, hesitates and emits smoke with clean oil and filter and no evidence of sludge within!! …
