Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2014 Chrysler Town and Country owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

The transmission failed. There were no lights on on the dash, vehicle started making a whining noise and within 12 hrs of the onset the transmission started to fail. The van would lose the ability to accelerate and put my family and other in danger because it happened on the highway and our vehicle was stopped in traffic. The check engine light did not come on until a few hours AFTER the transmission failed, but there were no light indicators prior to this happening. The transmission has been replaced after the damaged transmission was inspected by our mechanic and he stated that with less than 100k miles on the vehicle, based on the amount of metal and debris in the transmission pan, there must have been an issue with it during manufacturing. The original transmission will be returned shortly for a core refund, so will not be available for additional inspection after that. …

2014 Chrysler Town & Country experienced active diagnostic trouble code P2764 - Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Circuit Low. Vehicle was non-driveable. Authorized Chrysler dealership technician documented that voltage from TIPM to Valve Body was shorted to ground - confirming a wiring harness electrical defect. The dealership replaced the Valve Body three separate times without resolving the defect. The wiring harness was never permanently repaired despite being identified as the root cause. Manufacturer issued written admission that no repair could ensure resolution after 210 days out of service. The electrical short in the wiring harness affecting the transmission control circuit represents a safety defect that rendered the vehicle inoperable and uncontrollable during acceleration.

The oil cooler that is located under the intake manifold has a very bad issue and they crack and almost everyone of the engines like this I called about 9 diff shops and everyone of them told me it was a very common issue the one shop even keeps 5 in stock I already have changed this one but it causes them to leak oil down onto the exhaust and transmission and for some reason or another when ours started to leak badly the transmission acted up and we had to have that rebuilt so on top of the 250 dollar part it also cost almost 5k for a Transmission at same time I feel there needs to be something done about this as it a very bad common issue on all the engines like ours

I have a huge issue with the safety of my vehicle. while i am driving the car will race the RPMs up 6,000 up and down while I am going 65 on the highway, but the car down not speed up. the only way to stop it is to pull over the busy highway and restart the van. it will also sometimes drop down in gears and cause the vehicle to skid and shift the back end to the side. I called the deanship and they said the will not help. this is scary for me and my kids. to fix it would be over $5000 and that is more then the van is worth and I think it would be bad to sell it knowing this issue.

Left head needs to be replaced at just over 100,000 miles...There is a recall for all 3.6L pentastar engines from 2011-2013 but I have seen hundreds of 2014's that have the exact same issue. The recall needs to be expanded to include newer models as well. I was just given a quote of $5,000 to replace the left head.

Had van at dealership 5 times for having to crank to start, rough running engine & loss of power. Crank sensor was replaced twice due to wiring harness being out of place, broken open on bottom & had corroded wires. Wires fixed & harness secured. Had same problems 2 weeks later. Some wiring fixed & PCM replaced. Just over 1 month later I was driving 75mph on expressway after having just passed a semi-truck when I felt a sudden "give" and my van began to decelerate rapidly. I pushed on the accelorator but there was no power or response. The engine was still running and no warning lights showed on the dash. I knew the power steering would be affected too (based on this previously happening at about 15 MPH) and was luckily able to get pulled over on the side of the expressway. Turned van off & restarted. …
