Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Chevrolet Silverado owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
When driving a frontal impact occurred, seat and belt did not hold. Also, the air bag sensor was cracked, and the air bag did not deploy. Dealer contacted and they will not remedy the problem. Do not have the appropriate information on the product to remedy the problem. Driver was injured, and out of work. Provide further information.
Driver's side seat was unstable. Upon inspection of the driver's side seat consumer noticed that the bracket broke off the main seat frame. The cause of the bracket breaking was not determined. The consumer stated that the seat was poorly constructed.
Seat frame failed, reported to mfr on 12/9/2002 rep said that no other incidences had been reported. (not true) dealership where I received estimate for repair ($315.00) said that this is a very common repair (estimated at two per day at one time). Dt
The power seat frame split it appears to be 16 guage metal with spot welds. When the frame to the seat ripped it allowed the seat to rock in all position. When I contacted the dealer and had the seat repaired at a $407. Dollar cost , he stated he had previously had repaired two seats a week . I contacted Chevrolet customer service and they said the problen existerd with too many miles. I reported the problem 1 year after it occurred with aproximately 30,000 more miles
Transmission locked up in second gear and would not shift out of gear up or down. Also, ABS brake system has a defect in the system, causing extended stopping distance when pedal is pushed. In addition, A/C unit replaced three times/ electric seat wiring is defective/ door handles keep bending when attempting to open doors, and rear seal leakage. Repair work and replacements done at owner's expense. Problems still occur. Provide further information.
Whenever it rains & windshield wipers are suppose to be in use, they would fail to work properly. Sometimes stopping in midwipe. Would come on or off by themselves. This causes poor visibility to the driver. It is an intermittent problem. Also, seat bolts holding the brace through the base, broke. It was not connected. Kept moving freely. Will be taking vehicle to dealer.
Windshield wipers failed to operate when switched on. After turning them off and on several times they began working. This has happened on several other occassions, athough, as of yet, they have not failed completely. Seat reclined by itself also it would not lock into position. Eventually it began functioning normally again. This has happened on several occassions.
The drivers side bucket seat broke at one of the mount points under the seat. This is a bucket type seat. The seat got very wobbly after mount broke. I do not feel that this is normal wear andtear . I think this is a manufactuing defect. A mechanic at another garage told me that he had seen several seats break in the same manner.
My research from 3 dealers show that they modify this part to prevent failure, and that the failure rate is 96 times greater than other models. I have dealer part# and units sold from the small local dealers. I feel that research will prove that in larger demographic areas that this part needs to be recalled for poor design.
While driving, the drivers seat snapped and broke loose, an electrical six way seat, the electrical system still works, but the seat rocks. Dealer has been contacted and ordering a new frame, dealer cannot duplicate the problem. Faulty lock, remote could not lock door, however key could.
