I got into an accident with my 2005 chevy silverado by rear ending some one at a stop sign. I pulled up behind the vehicle and stopped to wait for them to go the it was my turn she didn't look well enough and had to hit her breaks again and so then did I but my truck did not stop in time because the breaking system delayed
Pitman arm to center link broke during slight left turn a low speed leaving residential driveway. Vehicle had no steering after event. All original OEM equipment with no modifications. Steering gear box had previously been replaced years earlier all other components original.
I have a 2005 Chevy 2500 I have had the steering shaft replaced 2 times already and now at 80,000 miles it has gone out again. I have contacted GM about this problem, they are aware of the problem but unwilling to do anything about it, they say its not a safety issue. Well maybe they should drive it for a day they would think otherwise. It feels like the steering wheel shaft and all is about to fall out of the truck , I am afraid to even have my family ride it the vehicle with me. I have researched online and this has been a ongoing problem for some time and GM has not addressed the problem. I would advise whom ever to get online and research all of the blogs etc of people having same problem their are so many it would take me months to read them all. I spoke will GM again last week and they told me to contact your office and report it to you if I want this problem resolved. …
Tl contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While the contact was driving approximately 30 MPH the brakes were engaged and a sudden loss of power steering occurred causing the vehicle to swerve off of the road. Extreme pressure was applied to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician refused to inspect the vehicle and stated that they were not responsible for any under carriage corrosion regardless of the severity. The manager agreed to replace the corroded power steering tank and repair the brakes. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they do not cover any corrosion under the service warranty due to the environment. The manufacturer also stated that the warranty would not apply to corrosion failures where the residence was close to a beach with exposure of salt in the air. The failure mileage was 23,000. …
Making left turn from loop 375 exit ramp to turn left onto montana ave. In el paso tx. I was waiting for light to turn left. Light turned green I proceeded to make left turn and in the turn the steering came really hard to turn I went up on the curb and attempted to stop and the brake pedal went to the floor. There was enough brake to stop. Good thing this did not happen when I approached the intersection or would have been much worse. There was no warning light or chime. I checked fluids and they were all full. When I took it to mission Chevrolet and explained what happen they gave me the impression they already knew what was wrong like this is a common issue. Today I got a call from them and confirmed that it is the power assist for the brakes and power steering. Why if this is a known problem the consumer does not know about it?
On two different occasions with my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 I experienced power steering and brake loss after starting the engine and beginning to drive.. Steering was very hard and I had to "stand" on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. After a few minutes it all began to work again but I was without power steering and brakes for several minutes. I took it to my dealer and they replaced the brake unit and replaced a hose on the power steering pump. Parts are probably not available as I left them at the dealer. Now I am getting a slight surge when brakes are applied and this is one of the events that happened before the failure causing me to fear that failure might happen again.
Tl contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd (na). While driving approximately 35 MPH, the contact began to apply the brakes to make a right turn. While turning with his foot on the brake, the contact noticed that it took extreme effort to steering the vehicle and apply the brakes. The contact pulled over and noticed that there was a hose leaking which was connected to the power steering pump. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 05V455000 (steering: hydraulic power assist: hose, piping, and connections). The current and failure mileages were approximately 90,000.
Steering: (1) engine vibration felt in steering and seat when brakes applied. Dealership said excessive and said it was the powersteering hose bringing in the engine vibration. No fix. Started in 2006 and continues. (2) intermediate idler arm causing knocking feel in steering wheel when going over the slightest of bumps. Manufacture knows of problem and only bandaids problem by greasing part. Once warranty is out, no free greasing/labor. Problem started within 1st year and continues. You have to take parts a part to apply grease to location. No more GM for me or my family of 7 children, and any grandchildren I am ever asked to co-sign for.
Purchased new in 2005. With low mileage and at 7 years old, clanking sounds from the front driver's side started. Felt somewhat in the steering wheel. Dealer replaced and wrote the "intermediate steering shaft to be binding." cost, $300.00. Truck not used off-road and half the miles are towing a 5th wheel trailer. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but doubtful. I read many others via the NHTSA show this problem too, yet no recall ! Seems a safety issue to me. Currently, I'm experiencing this again as of 041114 @ 51,000 miles @ 9 years old. Will be taking vehicle to dealer - again.
Tl contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. At 25 MPH on a clear day, the contact lost control of the brakes and steering, causing the vehicle to drive into a snow bank. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal completely to the floor, but the vehicle would not stop. The dealer replaced the hydro boost assembly in the vehicle. The contact stated that the repair cost $925. The dealer notified the contact of recall campaign # 05v04300 for the service brakes, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The failure mileage was 44,000. Update *4/23/07tr
