What owners report
2008 Toyota Sequoia was purchased with tires installed with a different brand and size from the spare. Spare can only be used for short time emergency use under 50 miles an hour. If a tire fails on a trip on an interstate and spare is installed vehicle will not handle or perform 100%. This places driver and passengers at risk. Not all people understand this risk and the owners manual explains this poorly. Most people will change the tire and drive on the spare normally. All vehicles should be equipped with the same brand and size of tire. If the spare not having a TPMS installed is the issue then should install a sensor in the spare of offer to install one for the owner. My Lexus had 5 tires all including the spare was the same brand, size and had TPMS sensors installed in all tires. Some how Toyota is saving money installing two different brands and sizes of tires on their vehicles.
Full size spare tire does not fit over front wheels if vehicle is equipped with the optional trd brake package because the calipers are larger. Toyota states that in the event of a front flat, the solution is to remove a rear tire, place the spare on the rear then remove the flat front tire and replace it with the rear tire. Toyota refused to replace the original spare with one that fits on the front.
Selling Old tires as if they were new On May 1st 2023, I took my 2007 Toyota Sequoia to Toyota of Vero Beach to be serviced. They advised me that my 2 Goodyear tires were dry rotting and cracking. The tires were purchased in 5/14/2019. The odometer read 181923 the mileage when they were inspected by Toyota was 205140 a difference of 23,217 miles and show no wear. I called the mechanic stated I purchased the tires in 2010, how could they be dry rotting and cracking. The mechanic looked up the serial number and determined they were made in 2015 and were 8 years old. The tires are P265/65R17 110S S2 WRL SR-A TL MFG. No. M7AHEXWR2316 and M7AHEXWR2315. I can't understand how you can sell me tires that are 5 years old and pass them off as new. That is not what I bargained for! This is unconscionable and dangerous since this vehicle is used to tow a heavy boat.
On Monday afternoon 1/19/2015 was driving my 2007 Toyota Sequoia 40 MPH as I drove my vehicle suddenly dropped on the left side & my tire flew off. Damage was done to my suspension as it scrapped & hit the concrete pavement damage was done to my rim. Now the dealership I purchased the vehicle from is currently working to resolve my issue. What happened to me has happened to many others where they will input your VIN into Toyota system but it does not populate that your vehicle is involved in the recall. Yet they recalled over 500,000 vehicle sold with the defect ball joint. This has cause substantial damage to a perfectly good vehicle.
Toyota Sequoia (ball joints recall) was driving on highway I-5 northbound just after the bridge that goes over the sacramento river I was on the bypass/cosway bridge driving in the #1 (of 2) lane going 65 MPH when suddenly my front end driver's side of my vehicle dropped completely and I was skidding on complete metal, I had no breaks and continued to skid for what seemed like forever, and steered to my to my right passing the #2 lane going up against the edge of the right side on the bridge. I was completely shocked. I couldn't open my driver's side door due the traffic right up against me. I immediately called my insurance road-side assistance who dispatched a tow truck. Due to the nature of the location, the tow truck required the assistance of highway patrol. …
I am having unusual tire wear on the outside edge of all 4 tires on my vehicle (2006 Toyota Sequoia), to the point of becoming bald. I have been relaying my concern to the dealer for the past 11K miles. The vehicle currently has 21K miles on it. The vehicle has been aligned 3 times by manufacturer dealers, the front ball joints have been replaced and the vehicle has been thoroughly inspected by district level manufacturer's people. They are saying nothing is wrong with the vehicle, but I have been doing some research and am finding that this has been a complaint on the same model of vehicle since 2002. I feel that the suspension of this vehicle is not allowing it to ride properly on the tires, thus causing this premature wear. The problem seems to be on bf goodrich, Bridgestone and in particular, dunlop tires.
Tl contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. While parked, the vehicle caught fire. A fire and police report were both filed. The manufacturer would only reimburse the contact for half the cost of the vehicle, stating that they could not determine the cause of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 20,000. According to the police report, the fire May have started in the engine compartment. Prior to the fire, the tires were wearing unevenly, the driver side mirror was loose and the rear glass did not open. Updated 04/23/08
The dunlop at20 tires on my 2005 Sequoia have been wearing excessively on the edges from the time that I first purchased the vehicle new. I have had the tires rotated, and the front end aligned at 17,000 miles to try to slow down the uneven wear on the tires. All the servicing was done by the Toyota dealership in frederick, md. With 27,000 miles on the vehicle the tires need to be replaced as the tread on the edges have worn to an unsafe level and I can't corner the vehicle without the tires squealing. This seems ridiculous in that the tires were properly cared for and the vehicle was maintained and the tires have prematurely failed.
