While depressing the brake pedal, the speed continued to increase and exceeded 95 mph. The driver used the parking brake to eventually stop the vehicle and turn off the engine. After restarting the vehicle, the RPM continued to rev very high. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. While waiting in traffic in a parking lot to enter the highway, with car in "drive", foot on brake and at a complete stop, the engine suddenly accelerated to a high idle (approx 1200-1500 RPM). The car lunged forwarded slightly, but I was able to apply more pressure to the brake and stop without colliding with the vehicle ahead of me. When I entered the highway and attempted to accelerate, the accelerator was unresponsive. I was able to coast back to the shoulder without causing any traffic accident. I noticed that the check engine light was on and engine was still at a high idle. I put the car in "park" and turned the engine off. After a few seconds I restarted the engine; the check engine light was still on but the engine idled normal and the accelerator resumed normal function. This incident happened on a Saturday. …

2010 Sequoia · 40,000 miles · Feb 2014

While accelerating to pass a vehicle that was signaling and operating well below the speed limit, my vehicle experienced sudden and continued unintended acceleration. I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop while fighting against the engine within an intersection but the engine continued building revs, bouncing off the limiter while my foot was entirely removed from the accelerator pedal and fully applied to the brake. During this time I had moved the gear selector to neutral, only furthering the engine's revs, and attempted to place the vehicle into park without success, before having to reach beneath my dashboard, foot still on the brake, to pull the accelerator pedal up. I verified both visually and by feel that the pedal was stuck in it's position entirely on it's own, there was no outside object or floormat inhibiting it's ability to return.

This Toyota Sequoia almost kill my family of 6, the accelerator pedal got stuck while in motion driving 30 to 40 miles, the issue was reported to Toyota and the car was taken to the concord, ca Toyota dealer for inspection, the Toyota service was unable to replicate the issue so the car was return back to me, Toyota service center was advice by the Toyota there is no problem, I experience first hand this problem, the accelerator got stuck while driving, I pressed the brake pedal but the car maintained the same speed, my only option was to put it in neutral and apply the brakes and finally the car stop, but the engine RPM's remain high around 4000 RPM, I was able to get the break pedal unstuck by revving the engine in the neural position

My vsc trac, trac off and check engine lights all came on yesterday. I was driving so I'm not sure if they all came on at the same time or not. The brake does not over ride cruise control on highway. So it will continue gas up even you use brake under cruise control mode. This is pretty disappointing since this problem has been seen all the way back to the first generation

2007 Sequoia · 140,000 miles · Oct 2016

Toyota Sequoia (ball joints recall) was driving on highway I-5 northbound just after the bridge that goes over the sacramento river I was on the bypass/cosway bridge driving in the #1 (of 2) lane going 65 MPH when suddenly my front end driver's side of my vehicle dropped completely and I was skidding on complete metal, I had no breaks and continued to skid for what seemed like forever, and steered to my to my right passing the #2 lane going up against the edge of the right side on the bridge. I was completely shocked. I couldn't open my driver's side door due the traffic right up against me. I immediately called my insurance road-side assistance who dispatched a tow truck. Due to the nature of the location, the tow truck required the assistance of highway patrol. …
