What owners report
On February 14th, my 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid (approx. 17,000 miles) experienced a catastrophic failure. Without warning, the steering wheel completely locked, preventing any control. Simultaneously, the automatic emergency collision braking system malfunctioned, locked the brakes, and would not disengage. This total loss of control forced the vehicle to crash into a median. Toyota Corporate has ignored my case for 30 days. This is a severe, life-threatening manufacturing defect that caused a crash and destroyed my sole source of income.
I have had several issues with the car. As issues have not been address problems become more unsafe. Most recently i have had intermittent issues with steering. The wheel will randomly be hard to turn leaving the car to drift uncontrollably. I have gone to the dealership but because they cannot replicate the issue nothing has been done. I have gone 3 different times to get them to address the concern but they cannot replicate it so they have not examined anything. They turned off the safety setting instead of checking the ADAS and since turning off the systems the issues are less frequent, but still a concern. I have contacted corporate who has not helped come to a resolution to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate.
On 11/29/23 after 11:30pm, I was in the process of clearing an exit and at the tail end of the exit it felt like the car was "correcting" itself and I was unable to stay turning right. The steering wheel felt locked and I was unable to control the car. The car impacted the guardrail and I was able to regain control after the initial impact. -This is a BRAND NEW car with less than 100 miles at the time of the accident. - Prior to the collision, there were no warning signals from the dashboard. - I was not injured from the accident as I was only able to go around 27-33mph due to a tractor trailor clearing the exit in front of me. No others were involved. - The manufacturer sent an inspector to look at the vehicle and test drive it. However, they did not test drive in the same conditions I was in or at. - The issue was not reproduced by another party. (Photos were taken the next day)
Car has broke down a total of 4 times since I have gotten it from Toyota back in December of 2023. I have a dash-cam now that has footage of the car breaking down. Toyota fails to acknowledge my concerns and comes up with excuses and tells me to wait until it happens more frequently. I would love to have this car inspected, but as Toyota has stated they cannot get the issue to repeat. My safety for others and myself feel uneasy with the whole ordeal as it happens at the most random times. The first few times my car has broke down, the steering wheel locked up and forced itself all the way to the left on its own causing me to hit a curb and median. Manual control over the steering wheel was not possible. Luckily with this occurring both times I was going a slow speed. …
On [redacted], around 7:45 PM, My husband and I were driving on [redacted] from Atlanta to visit family at John's Creek. We were driving at a steady speed of approximately 70mph on the second lane from the left when all of a sudden, the vehicle displayed a 'malfunction' alert and began swerving uncontrollably. Despite our attempts to regain control, the car swerved right, striking another vehicle three lanes away. We had no control over the steering or bringing the car to a safe stop. After colliding with the other vehicle, it then returned to its original lane and came to a sudden stop with a message displayed stating 'Shifting to P'. During this incident, an SOS call was automatically placed to Toyota, and we were subsequently connected to 911 through them. Our vehicle got damaged due to this and so did the other vehicle that got hit. …

The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 5 MPH and making a left turn, the steering wheel locked. Additionally, the windshield wipers and the windshield washer fluid engaged independently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer two times, and the dealer informed the contact that the failure could be related to loosened battery cables. Additionally, the vehicle was test-driven, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving and making a turn. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering ECU assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. …
