Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2010 Toyota Corolla owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle suffered a sudden, simultaneous failure of multiple electrical and safety systems. Without warning, the Check Engine light, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) light, Traction Control light, and SRS Airbag light all illuminated simultaneously on the dashboard. Immediately upon illumination of these fault lights, the vehicle lost computer-assisted stability control, began swerving violently, spun out of control, and collided with another vehicle, suffering severe front and rear impact damage. The vehicle was declared a total loss. Despite severe impact forces to both the front and rear structure, the SRS airbags completely failed to deploy. Both occupants sustained injuries due to the impact and lack of airbag protection. …
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was making abnormal sounds and also vibrating. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal gradually, the steering wheel and brake pedal would vibrate. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The contact stated that the traction control warning light would illuminate intermittently and would cause the vehicle to shut off inadvertently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where all four ignition coils were replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was no longer losing motive power and stalling; however, the steering failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

several weeks After I took my vehicle into the local dealership for the PWMS assembly window panel control switch problem, I realized my door panel and the switch area was loose. I mentioned this after a couple weeks when I really noticed the Window Master Switch mechanism was dropping downward under the panel cover. The dealership did not take me seriously, so it continued to get worse. I should have taken the car back and insisted they fix it. As of today, I cannot use my Key for power entry, i must manually use the key in the door. The power on the windows still works, but the whole master switch assembly is precariously hanging there in the door and the panel that went on top was damaged when they replaced it so now its broken off in pieces and cannot even be used. I am SO unhappy with this dealership, for the many times I have taken my car in for service. …
my car had issues completely shutting down on me while I was driving which was very dangerous my abs light and steering light would come on each time it shuts down and I wasn't able to use my power locks lights I couldn't move it out of park or nothing those were the only two lights the was still able to start up just couldn't move or use any buttons my keypad wasn't working so that indicated that it was an electrical issue so I thought it was my battery even though the light wasn't on for the battery I had my battery tested and the code came back and said I needed an alternator so I had my alternator tested and it works perfectly fine so then I checked the fuse box and it was burned up so that was my whole issue
There was a sudden acceleration in my Toyota Corolla 2010 and hit a tree,I was driving 15 miles per hour at that time. When complained to Toyota they investigated about 15 days ago but no conclusion was provided from Toyota. I was injured but recovered already. Please ask them why they are not providing any conclusion to me. .
I was driving my car yesterday and as I went to accelerate the car didn't move so I pushed the gas pedal again and it went real slow. Then the car jerked and began to smoke really bad so I pulled over and open the hood and flames began to shoot out.
1. Weather stripping will not stay on driver door 2. Cd player of radio system was throwing out the 6 cd's as driving- replaced stereo. 3. Under 70,000 miles- cv joint went out - replaced. Prior to replacement loud clunking sounds and steering difficult- other owners same issues I am reading. Needs recalled 4. Appx 77.000 miles no warning alternator went out and was extremely hot and smelly-replaced. 5. Appx 78,000 miles between 25-35 MPH transmission keeps slipping. I was driving down a street and once on interstate it hit the other gear hard/clunked- Toyota dealer called Toyota and they said replace transmission. Currently in the shop. Called Toyota and filed a case- they respectively understand my concern, however, they did not seem concerned of the safety hazard of this issue and probability of this issue causing a death. …
I was driving to work when suddenly thick smoke started appearing from the driver's side power window switch. I immediately pulled over and got out of the car. The smoke had the typical smell of burning plastic and the front passenger window slowly opened on its own. After 5 minutes, the smoke stopped and I continued to my office as it was nearby. Later in the evening, upon removing the switch, the melted plastic was clearly visible. One of the switches on the panel does not depress anymore due the melting of the plastic. The switch that does not depress is for the front passenger window and it has been open since Friday July 19th because the problem has not been fixed yet. I am aware of a recall for the exact same issue however, it is for Corolla models up to 2009 and since mine is a 2010 model, Toyota refuses to address this situation.
I'm not 100% sure if the master switch window is part of the recall but my master switch was smoking and I felt like if I continued driving earlier it felt like my car was on fire. I could've lost control because my switch was literally smoking non stop. I was at the traffic light when it happened, luckily I was on the first line, I accidentally hit the window switch with my elbow and it started to smoke. I wasn't feeling safe so I called my insurance and I asked for a tow truck to bring my car to s nearest Toyota dealer, I kept asking Toyota dealer if this was part of the recall but they cannot answer me. I don't feel safe driving Toyota because of this. I might switch my car with some other brands of I keep getting this kind of incident.
