Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Toyota Camry owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
While turning off the vehicle driver left vehicle in drive, took the key out of the ignition, and noticed the car was starting to roll. Consumer's vehicle hit another vehicle before coming to a complete stop. Keys were removed from vehicle's ignition and the engine was shut off when the vehicle had rolled and hit another vehicle.
First and foremost vehicle has 345,000 miles and am the third owner and brought it from los angeles. I would like to include an image of a receipt I have from my father for $700 in costs for breaks and tires before he nine in March 2015 to chicago for its first winter in 2015. Since that time upon its first freeze where the engine frozen due to the climate change the engin does not respond upon acceleration from a stop most oftentimes in traffic had began to incur it cost quite a bit of money to have a car in chicago so it is an intervening very often meaning I have to start it with amy pack and charger. .also there is a discrepancy I have uncovered regarding the recall that the first owner brought in for a replacement engine approximately between 200 and 250,000 miles. …
Automatic gear shift does not always respond to gear shift. For example sometimes when it is placed in the park position, on occasion it has slipped back into neutral command. Thus on occasion it has been placed in park command parked wit the key taken out of the ignition and it has rolled or moved considerably out of its parked placed. This can cause potential damage to the car and other vehicles.
Although I had timely oil and fluid changes and inspections, the technicians reported I had oil sludge on several occasions. Without notice, in nov, 2002, car suddenly overheated. Symptoms were smoking and leaky radiator. During inspection tech noted: "vehicle has alot of sludge in valve cover/ oil drains slowly & over flows w/filled too fast."
Engine seized with oil stick still showing oil. 1,000 miles later transmission went out. Car still stalled after new transmission. Replaced distributor cap, no luck. Tightened lose ignition wire, no luck. Replace ignition wire connection, finally no problems. Now I no longer have confidence in Toyota products.
1995 4 cylinder Camry that has a thumping noise when the driver and passenger window buttons pressed to lower the windows.* upon acceleration, the pedal seemed to go about 1/2 to 1 inch before the transmission engaged. The transmission slipped at lower speeds when accelerating or trying to maneuver in a parking lot. The consumer stated it happens sporadically when making a right or left turn.
Transmission failure: went from neutral to drive without engaging. Toyota - split transmission cost - findings were metal in transmission. Front axle: cv boots were dryrotted and whole axle on front had to be replaced. 2 motor mounts busted - car only 6 years old.
Upon starting vehicle by putting it into reverse then backing out, when placing the vehicle back into park, vehicle automatically went back into reverse on its own. The vehicle went down the driveway on its own and caused an accedent.
I had the radiator go out ,the timing belt replaced 2 times. All struts failed, and transmission went out too. I sold the car , put to much money into it, but vehicle had over 200,000 miles on it when that happened.
While driving about 55 MPH, vehicle started knocking and lost power, then it stalled. Vehicle had to be towed where dealer could not explain what was the cause, but they had found metal particles in transmission.
