2000 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp began to smoke from engine compartment while driving in slow traffic. Pulled over and opened the hood to discover a small fire around the oil fill tube about the size on a baseball cap. Hood insulation on driver side was also on fire but had never been oil soaked? Fire melted plastic cover and damaged some wires and modules as it spread to entire engine compartment in seconds, even after closing hood. Hood was again lifted approximately 1 minute from initial fire discovery and fire was extinguished quickly by passing truck driver with extinguisher. A few more minutes elapsed before fire department arrived it was then noted by myself that the gas line at the rear of the engine was still emitting a fine stream of gasoline as I had not yet turned the ignition off. …

My 2000 Grand Prix gtp caught fire on January 16, 2008. I bought my car well-maintained and had been keeping up on the maintenance very well. My gtp had been having no signs of any trouble including the day in caught fire. I had just turned off my car and went inside. There was nothing abnormal about my car- no smells, no check engine light on, and no gauges showing that anything was wrong. Within 20 minutes, I had gone inside, my car started on fire, the fire department put out the fire, and I came back to see my car totaled. Everything under the hood was melted, engine and all.

There have been more than I can count on both hands to the incidents that this care has stalled. It happens unexpectedly and I never know when it is going to happen, but it always seems to happen when I am in the middle of traffic. So, I have to pull over and try and start the car. Which it will start then sputter and stall and die. It has had a new computer, 2 new fuel pumps, fuel resistor, fuel relay switches, starter, supercharger, 2 fuse boxes which are a discontinued part that has to come from an auto wrecker, and recently a wire that was frayed behind the fuse box that had something to do with the fuel system. All this has been done within the last 10 months since we purchased the car on payments on June 1, 2009. Needless to say I am not sure as of this last repair if it has corrected the problem. …

I was driving along, and suddenly without warning, the engine died...naturally the power steering and power brakes didn't work, but I managed to get the car over to the curb. I tried to start it and it started just fine, so I took it home, I was nervous after that driving it ! Because after that it continued to stall several more times when I was driving it, I never knew when it would happen. So I couldn't go out of town in it that's for sure ! I spent quite a bit of money for mechanics to work on it, but since it didn't show a code of any kind, no one could fix it for me. I loved the car, but I traded it off because no body could fix it. I just can't believe that it was not included in that recall for the ignition switch. Just thought I would let you know about this...thanks

Smelling gasoline when car was parked in garage. The smell was variable but seemed to be stronger when weather was hot. I checked the fuel injectors to be certain no o-ring was leaking. None were leaking but I noticed small amount of gasoline on the valve cover on the valve cover closet to the firewall. Checking I found that by depressing the "quick connect" between the fuel line and the fuel rail I could make a small amount of gasoline escape. Looking at the engine cover (large plastic cover with v-6 3.8l on it) that there was an indent in the insulation where this was pressing on the fuel line. I removed the cover and have driven for 1 week without the gasoline smell. I have ordered a replacement quick connect.
