Strong fuel smell from rear of Pontiac G6 near fuel tank. This is a common problem due to a cracked elbow on top of the fuel pump. This issue is happening among all G6 models from 05 to 09 . This issue should be recalled as it is dangerous to the drivers , passengers or anyone that comes within 3 ft of Pontiacs that have this issue. Fuel odor can be smelt from further than 3ft that can damage to lungs, throat and multiple other health hazards. The fumes can reach even further witch is easily ignited if someone were to walk by with a cigarette This issue is common in 75% of Pontiac G6's on the road This defective part should be placed on recall and should definitely be looked into before someone loses their lives over an easily preventable occurrence from happening. Thank you for your time and please look into this issue before it's to late.
On 4/7/15, while driving heard chimes. All icons on instrument panel turned on. The fuel gauge needle moved to empty. The low fuel gauge turned on. All this indicating malfunction. The odometer turned off and the code error came on and turned off; then the odometer came back on. All the icons on the instrument panel turned off except for the security light icon which stayed on. It felt as if someone was attempting to disable my vehicle. Later that day turned the vehicle on and everything seemed normal, like it reset itself. On 4/8/15, after driving approximately 70 miles on the highway, the security light icon turned on and stayed on. I took the vehicle directly to the dealer and they informed me they would have to diagnose the vehicle. The result was inconclusive, they did not find anything wrong. …
My vehicle exhibits the exact description of the faulty ggas tank leak covering the G6 up to 2008 but mine is a 2009. It is unacceptable to not cover every year that has this problem. The gas leaks right onto the muffler which is hot and can be deadly in my opinion. We are afraid to drive the car since I took a good look at how bad the leak actually is. Pontiac has sold a defective product to unsuspecting buyers which could easily cause death if the gasoline igignitesr the fumes falling directly on the hot muffler cause an explosion.I took several photos showing the extent of the leak. Pontiac customer support said my car is not covered because it was built in a plant that fixed the leak issue already. When I asked the rep if it was fixed already ehy was it leaking he had no answer. Only stated that my car was not covered and I had to pay for the repairs myself out of pocket. …
I was driving up an incline on I-287 in nj when my RPM's skyrocketed and by car's check engine light came on and my traction control light as flashed. My car began losing speed and became hard to control due to a loss of traction. Upon a visit to my mechanic it was found to be my catalytic converter. I have looked online and discovered the G6 from 04-10 have been known to experience this problem but yet GM has failed to make a recall. I would appreciate if you could look further into the situation. I was fortunate to be able to get my 4 way flashers on and avoid an accident narrowly. If my car had stalled like some of the other people I have read about who have had this problem it could have been fatal.
Catalytic converter needed replacing with less than 125, 000 miles on engine. Could not afford to replace so could not get state inspection to pass. Has been sitting and not driven since March 2019. Between dec 2018 and March 2019, both front and rear brakes failed. Car driver's door and convertible top stopped working. Needs approx. $3000 to fix which I don't have but still paying $261./ monthly payments and cannot drive. Finance company says they will not let me do voluntary repo. I am retired on fixed income. Any advice would be appreciated. Cannot even sell because I owe $7000 on it and not worth half that. What can you do with a car that only sits in driveway?
After parking my car I smell a very strong gas smell for several hours so I can not park my car in my attached garage because it makes my whole house smell like gas. It started in our over 100 degree summer weather and seems to be getting worse every day. It also starts hard after it has sat for some hours. I am afraid it could start a fire. I do not feel safe driving my car!!! I see the 2009 g5 has a recall for what sounds like the same issue. A problem with the fuel pump module (a crack) but I do not see one for the G6. In an article jeff boyer states he wants GM customers to have complete peace of mind. Which I would like to have with my G6 - 4 cylinder.
Started noticing a prominent gas smell everytime I pulled my daughter out of the back seat. I lokked underneath the car and noticed a drip, took the car in to a local shop and they found the fuel line ruptured. I found a GM campaign number 12190, the dealer said I am not covered. I bought the vehicle in ca which is one the states that such campaing mentions to be covering. The smell is very noticeable after placing the ignition in acc, which primes the pump I assume, if the car has been sitting for a few hours or overnight the smell is gone. I believe that my VIN should still be covered by GM as this is present a fire hazrd and potential for serious injury.
Started smelling fuel on exterior of the vehicle, most prominently near the gas tank. Took it to the dealership and found that the line connected to the fuel pump was corroding and fuel was leaking. They will have to replace the entire fuel pump module, as parts are not sold separately. The mechanic said that these are known issues with pontiacs. Did a little digging and found that there were over 40,000 recalls on GM products with this same issue, however, for some reason the 2009 Pontiac G6 did not make that list. Apparently we need some more complaints to get GM to add the G6 to the recall list (as leaking fuel could be a fire hazard!!!!).
The gas tank on this 2009 Pontiac G6 gt is leaking fuel. Car was taken to dealer, dealer said that the fuel pump located in the gas tank needed to be replaced as it is leaking. Further investigation using non GM auto repair shops, I found this problem was not only on the G6 but many of the GM vehicles from 2005 to 2009. I believe that GM should issue a recall immediately due the fuel leaking from tank and splattering onto the hot exhaust system. At this time I'm not aware of any deaths related to this problem but will continue my research. This is my 24 year old niece's car. I'm her uncle.
