Vehicle has an extremely strong fuel smell around the vehicle at all times. This smell started about a year ago and has gotten progressively worse. The vehicle can't even be parked in the garage for fear of the gas water heater nearby causing the fumes to ignite. The gas smell especially fills the trunk compartment and even sometimes smells inside the vehicle itself causing us to roll the windows down. I have been researching this for several months and found many 2007/2008 G6 owners have the same issue which is a cracked plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module. There is a recall for the g5 fuel pump issues of the same years...I even live in one of the states mentioned in the g5 recall where this issue is seen. The g5 recall even states "consequence:fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source May result in a fire".

My 2008 Pontiac G6 convertible is leaking fuel from the top of the fuel tank. I had the car lifted up on lifts at the dealership I work at and saw that there was fuel all around the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel line is leaking because the vehicle does not start on the first attempt. The second attempt builds up enough fuel pressure for a normal start. The fuel odor has gotten so bad inside the cabin that I have to keep the windows cracked at all times while driving to keep me from getting a headache. I can be driving down the road and literally watch the fuel needle drop. GM need to do something about this issue before I or someone else are seriously injured or even killed in a fire!

Fuel pump assembly port developed a crack, resulting in fuel leaking from the area. A very strong fuel odor was noticed when being driven or parked, with slight drips sometimes noticed on the garage floor. The odor was so strong that it was even noticeable in the living areas from simply entering and leaving the garage. If an ignition source were present, a vehicle fire could have occurred, a serious concern. My local mechanic inspected and repaired the vehicle, and believed that the vehicle should be part of a Pontiac recall on similar cobalt, g5, ion vehicles, that they've seen the problem on before, but our VIN does not register as a recalled vehicle for this problem.

Noticed a strong gas smell coming from rear of car for several days. Finally took car in for inspection. Mechanic said that the fuel pump modulator needs to be replaced. I've seen on several websites that the Pontiac g5 has the same problem and were being recalled. Unfortunately I haven't seen anything about the Pontiac G6. I believe that this is a serious issue with this car. Could you please investigate this. When parking the car in my garage the odor was quite strong and also a danger to me and my family. The car could have caught on fire as well as my house.

Started smelling gas fumes when I stopped the car, now I smell it whether I am driving or stopped. Took it to my mechanic and they determined that it was leaking from the top of fuel tank. They said it was either the plastic fuel line cracked on the fuel pump or the module. They said this has been a safety problem with the 2008 G6. I think this is a problem that should be taken care of by GM. This is a serious safety problem with these cars. GM needs a recall on this matter. GM has had recalls on prior years of the G6 with the same problem.

Husband and I were notified that there is a leak in the fuel pump. In researching, I see that there has been an ongoing issue with the fuel pump associated with Pontiac G6's for the 2008 model year. This would explain why we have smelled gas off and on since we purchased the car, but when examined by mechanic, nothing was found. If there is a defect in the air tex fuel pump used in the manufacturing of the 2008 G6's, then why was there no recall issued. I think this is a flagrant disregard for public safety and negligence.
