The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the fueling system was leaking. There was an abnormal odor of fuel detected. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lunged forward and stalled but restarted. The alternator warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 5,500.
The vehicle was being driven to work approximately 30 miles. It was noticeable that the fuel gauge was dropping rather quickly. When entering the parking lot and parking the odor of gas was strong. After walking around the vehicle a puddle of liquid was under the passenger side door area. After looking under the vehicle the underside was saturated with fuel. The fuel tank was now empty. The vehicle was 75 miles from a Nissan dealer so we towed it to a class A mechanic shop for repair. At the time we were thinking something just pulled apart like a connection. The mechanic put the vehicle on a lift and took off all the covers to explore and found the fuel line blew apart. I contacted a Nissan dealership which told me I would have to tow it to them which would be my cost. It is still at the mechanic shop and whenever Nissan finds a new fuel line it will be repaired. …
May 1st, 2023 at approx. 3:30pm There were NO warning lights or messages of ANY kind received. No warning given by mail or phone call from selling agent that was issued March 12th, 2021. Was driving on interstate going south headed home after work. Approx 15 mi from home when smoke starting coming into the vehicle & from under the hood. Traveling in fast lane, appox 70mph in heavy traffic. Tried to pull over to see what the problem was but traffic wouldn't allow it, & I could not get to side of road & missed the next exit. So I proceeded to next rest area that I knew was less than a mile on my side. When there is smoke you usually find fire! As I entered the exit ramp to rest area I passed out from smoke inhalation. SUV continued traveling straight ahead at approx 55 mph & hit parked 18 wheeler tractor-trailer, I bounced off it, circled around & ended up facing West. …
This event has happen 5 times in the last 8 months. While driving (under 30 miles per hr.) car suddenly seems to disengage from the engine . I no longer have acceleration and the engines RPMs increase while stepping on the gas. Stepping off the gas petal will lower the RPMs but the car slows down and eventually will stop. If I brake and reset the car in Drive, will reset and begin to accelerate. Bad thing is there is not engine warning lights or indication of when this will happen. Each episode has been when I have not been going over 30 mph luckily. I never know when this will happen, my biggest fear is the engine will disengage, I will be stuck in the middle of the road and someone will not see me and rear-end me. I have contacted the dealer (January 31, 2024) and had the car looked at but because they could not duplicate the event, they gave it back to me. …
The fuel pump and fuel level system appear to be malfunctioning. After refueling, the fuel gauge on the dashboard fluctuates continuously and does not provide a stable or accurate reading. This fluctuation continues for several minutes after pumping gas. The vehicle also struggles to start, requiring multiple attempts before turning on. On multiple occasions, the engine has shut off unexpectedly while the vehicle was in motion. This issue poses a safety risk because the vehicle can stall while driving, which increases the risk of a collision, especially in traffic or at higher speeds. The inaccurate fuel gauge also makes it difficult to determine the actual fuel level, increasing the risk of running out of fuel unexpectedly. The problem has occurred multiple times and is reproducible. The fuel pump and related components are available for inspection upon request. …
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: The fuel pump assembly failed. The component is still in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer: The engine stalls or loses power unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds. This creates a high risk of a rear-end collision, as the vehicle becomes a stationary or slow-moving hazard in active traffic without warning. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer: I have experienced the failure repeatedly. Although I contacted a Nissan dealer, they stated they could not verify or perform the repair because my VIN is not currently listed in the R21B8 recall database, despite the vehicle exhibiting the exact symptoms described in that campaign. 4. …
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The fuel/engine vapor ventilation system in the driver-side engine bay is leaking raw fuel fumes into the fresh air intake. Yes, the vehicle and all components are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Inhaling continuous raw gasoline fumes while driving and idling causes physical distress, including severe headaches, burning eyes, and dizziness, creating a driving hazard. The unaddressed raw fuel leak under the hood also poses an elevated fire safety risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?Pinnacle Nissan previously confirmed a fuel leak and replaced the fuel tank and lock ring assembly. …
I am reporting a strong gasoline odor inside my 2021 Nissan Rogue. The smell is noticeable both while driving and after the vehicle has been parked, and it is strong enough to enter the passenger cabin. This condition raises serious safety concerns because the odor may indicate a fuel system leak or another defect that could increase the risk of fire or expose occupants to harmful gasoline fumes. The smell is persistent and has not gone away. I believe this issue presents a significant safety hazard to myself, my passengers, and others on the road. I request that the NHTSA investigate this issue to determine whether it is a widespread defect affecting 2021 Nissan Rogue vehicles and whether a safety recall or other corrective action is warranted. …
