Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2010 Nissan Murano owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact initially had a family member replace the brake master cylinder; however, the failure returned the following day. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who recommended that the ABS actuator be replaced. The contact then called the manufacturer and was informed that there was a recall on her vehicle for a brake fluid flush, and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. A diagnostic test was performed, and a brake fluid flush was also performed on the vehicle. The failure returned soon after the repair. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that she had to pay a diagnostic fee to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. …
My car's ABS failed to turn on even when braking from a far enough distance in the snow and caused me to rear end a car at 5 mph. I was holding down the brakes from 20 cars away and it felt like my brakes were unresponsive and all the way to the floor as my car continued sliding. Nissan's voluntary recall was performed of flushing out the brake fluid and replacing it with the DOT 4 and it still failed as a working remedy for its defective ABS from what I have read from other owners. I love my car but might have to sell due to feeling unsafe driving in the snow. Please fix this Nissan before another accident occurs due to your defective ABS.
I am reporting an ABS/braking safety issue with my 2010 Nissan Murano. My vehicle was included in Nissan campaign P0A08/NTB21-047 involving brake fluid and the ABS actuator. Before the campaign, I had experienced an intermittent braking problem during a loss-of-traction/ABS event. When Nissan performed P0A08 on 8/8/2023 at 191,017 miles, I specifically reported the problem. The Nissan repair order states: "CUSTOMER STATES IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO FLOOR." The ABS actuator passed Nissan's campaign inspection, but because of my complaint, the service manager contacted Nissan/WCC regarding actuator replacement. The repair order states: "SERVICE MANAGER CALLED WCC TO VERIFY COVERAGE OF ABS ACTUATOR AFTER IT PASSED INSPECTION FOR RECALL." Nissan case J0003385169 was opened. …
brakes/ ABS brake system: Still in use currently. Not reproducible, very erratic; once every few days of operation. No outside inspections to date. No warning lights of messsages/ error codes before or after the brake failure. Event: Brake will fail on rare occasions randomly. No particular event precedes the failure: (corner; speed; trip duration; road vibration; etc). When brake is pressed, pedal drops to near the floor before giving some back pressure. No noticeable speed reduction here. If brakes are pumped they will begin to delevope pressure with some reduction in velocity. After several more pumps the brake activation returns and car can be stopped. No accident from this problem yet. Brake reservoir is full and has been full during these problems. This seems very similar to the 2009 murano recall for ABS system failure. NHTSA Campaign Number 18V916. …
The brake pedal suddenly feels spongey out of nowhere. The car stops when the pedal hits the floorboard of the car. This has happened to me a couple of times now ever since I had my car. I have took it to my local pep boys but all they did was replace my brake pads. It fixes the problem for a couple months but it ends up happen again. There are no warning lights showing up for my ABS or any of the braking system.
This symptom occurs at all speeds. When brakes are depressed, the pedal goes all the way to the floor. Brakes do not function properly causing increased stopping distance. This issue is a hazard for occupants of the vehicle and others on the road around the vehicle. The symptoms the vehicle is exhibiting are identical to 2009 Murano's that have brake modules and ECU's recalled. This vehicle has been removed from use pending replacements of the same components recalled on the prior year Murano's. The cost of the repairs is in excess of $2000 and should be at the expense of Nissan for installing faulty components. This faulty brake system can be fatal if not addressed, all Murano's with faulty brake components need to be recalled before it costs the lives of innocent parties. …
At random times, after braking over bumps or imperfections in the road surfaces, at any speed, the brake system loses all pressure making it almost impossible to stop. When driving it in the snow, after the ABS system is triggered, the brake system loses pressure, which is extremely dangerous. At one moment, I was driving very slowly down a snowy hill, when the brake system suddenly lost pressure and the ABS only engaged after the brake pedal was pressed all the way to the floor. At that time, it was too late and I slid through an intersection and ended up in a ditch (with my wife and infant son in the car). Luckily, everyone else was stopped on either side of the intersection, and no damage was done to our car or anyone else's property. So far, there is no known fix for this issue, and it seems there is no research being done by Nissan. …
Today, nov 26, 2019, a dry, sunny day near boston my brakes on 2010 Murano failed and car rear ended the car in front at about 10mph. Pedal went all the way to the floor , car slowed slightly but was unable to stop with plenty of space to do so in normal conditions. Unable to steer around it due to oncoming traffic on left and hill on right. Damage to both cars. Police responded and car eventually towed to body shop.. Noticed similar complaints but why no recall?
The brake system failed back in August causing a total loss of my vehicle I sprained my neck nobody wants to know about what this single vetran has to say I was pulling into a gas station and the brakes failed and it was out of gas.
The brake system compleley failed and a rear axel came loose and almost lost atire driving before the brakes stopped and failed ijust had brake fluid put in the resivior too and they still failed on the vehicle.
