Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

There was a previous recall on the anti braking system. Prior to the recall I had noticed that the ABS light was always coming on & I also noticed the brakes were at times seemed to be grabbing metal & not working . I took the car in to get fixed with the recall notice. Everything was fine until now the ABS light has been coming on frequently again & it is doing the same exact thing when braking. It seems when the light is off & the brakes start to not work properly then the light comes on & they do work. I never know when this is going to happen when the brakes fail. There is no loss of brake fluid. The recall repair was done at Ricart in Columbus Ohio. The problem was confirmed by the recall that this was faulty.

I had just purchased car and I had all maintenance items done at aaa garage to include timing belt, serpentine belt, oil change, tune up, anti freeze flush, tires rotated, etc. There was nothing ndonevto brakes as they still had life in them. I know more maintenance items were done but I forget as my receipt is elsewhere. Happy now I could drive my car knowing the timing belt and other maintenance things were done I left the dealership. I had only gone approximately 10 miles and came to stop light. No brakes. We called aaa and brought it right back. They weren't sure why no brakes as they seem to work OK now. So the only thing left that hadn't been done was the brake fluid replacement and flush. We had that done and we drove it home OK. There were greeted with the new recall on the ABS brakes. …

When driving home from work going 30 MPH I turned right and needed to stop at a red light approximately 200 feet ahead. When I depressed my break pedal it went all the way down to the floor board and had very little, if any reaction. Also, there was a strange sound when I took my foot off the pedal. I took the car to a dealer in goodlettsville, tn to be diagnosed but they said it was something totally different than the problem I was having. I declined the service. It has happened many times since then, with my breaks going back to normal after I stop and restart the car. However, a few weeks ago this happened and they have not gone back to normal. …

While performing a stop the brake pedal lost all pressure and went to the floor. The car did stop but took longer to do so. After reviewing the recall notice for ABS brakes I brought the vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer who confirmed there was a recall but did not inspect anything beyond driving the car to test the brakes. Between the time of the incident and the one and a half weeks they claimed was the next available appointment the brakes returned to normal operation. The recall (15V337) states the hydraulic unit will be flushed, cleaned and inspected. The dealer indicated they were only testing the braking system by driving it and when the incident did not produce the same result, that was the end of their responsibility until I received a certified letter from the manufacturer. This recall was issued in May 2015 and it is now the beginning of October 2015. …
