Location: 605 north, before del amo blvd. Exit. At 5 pm on September 22, 2011 I was in the extreme left lane of the freeway, next to the carpool lane. A light gray truck (with flatbed) swerved right in front of me at a very high speed. There were just a couple feet of distance between the truck and my car. I slammed my brakes to avoid rear-ending the truck. A car behind me hit my car from rear right forcing me into the car pool lane. That's when a van that was in the car pool hit my car first on the rear left door and then rubbing against my car and delivering a huge impact on the driver side window. The impact was head-on and it did the following: 1. The driver-side window was smashed completely. The flying broken pieces of glass flew and delivered several injuries including bleeding on my left elbow, left hand near the wedding ring finger, on my head and on my right hand. 2. …
Takata recall. Lexus has distributed an "interim notice" of this recall that advises owners not to operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat. The letter states Lexus is "taking this action to ensure your safety". In reality, the notice is an obvious attempt to protect Lexus from any liability. This notice was sent three months ago, and yet there is no remedy available. The recommended solution is impractical for most families. The question is how long should consumers consider is a "reasonable" time for this problem to be corrected. The issue essentially prevents an owner from honestly trading, selling, or otherwise disposing of the vehicle while the problem exists. I also lease another Lexus vehicle and was told by Lexus that I could drive that one while we waited for the recall to be resolved. That adds miles to my lease obligation that were not planned for. …
Takata recall, in June 2016 I received in the us mail a notice of recall for the front passenger airbag. The notice advised me to not drive the vehicle with a passenger in the front passenger seat. It is 5 months later and Lexus still has no solution or available remedy for this situation. In the meantime the resale price of the car has fallen due to this situation. I want the airbag replaced by Lexus soon.
Tl* the contact owned a 2010 Lexus ES350. The contact received a notification stating that the vehicle had Takata air bags. The contact was concerned that the VIN was not indicating that the vehicle was included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified. A local mechanic was not contacted. The contact had not experienced a failure. The vehicle's mileage was 104,000. Updated 09/06/17
The 2010 Lexus e35 I was a passenger in was rear ended in a multi-car accident on June 11, 2011, on interstate highway 80 in roxbury township, new jersey. There were three cars involved in this collision and the Lexus I was riding in was the only car whose air bags failed to deploy. As result I sustained a severe case of whiplash involving my right shoulder and arm from which I continue to suffer almost constantly daily discomfort three years later. This injury would have been completely avoided had these Takata airbags deployed as they were intended to do as result of direct impact by another vehicle. I urge the national transportation safety board to commence a robust and vigorous criminal inquiry into these failed Takata airbags that Lexus installed on their vehicles during 2010.
"Takata recall" - Lexus has failed to remedy the defect within a reasonable time. They have known about this for months and sent a letter in July saying "in the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, striking the vehicle occupants, and result in serious injury or death." the local dealer has no idea when the replacement of the airbag inflator or the airbag assembly will be available. Until the replacement is made, the car cannot be driven with someone in the passenger seat. This creates a huge hardship and greatly reduces the ability to use the car. Since Lexus has know about this for a long time, it is unacceptable to not promptly remedy the defect or even give a time range when the remedy might be completed.

The parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer stated that the parts would eventually be available and referred the contact to her local dealer. The local dealer (sterling mccall Lexus located at 10025 southwest fwy houston, tx 77074) was contacted and stated that they did not see the inflators being repaired and suggested that the contact consider a new vehicle. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

NHTSA investigations
Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
