Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle struck the rear of the vehicle at approximately 70 MPH. The auxiliary warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that none of the air bags were deployed during the crash. The contact expected the air bags to deploy and was concerned that they failed to do so. The contact and his daughter both sustained injuries as a result of the crash. The contact reported neck whiplash, cervical and lumbar neuropathy, sciatica, herniated discs at L4-L5, drop foot, several contusions, rib injuries from the seatbelt, and injuries to the left hand, thumb, and wrist after the contact's daughter's hand was forced into the dashboard. The contact also received 14 stitches near the left eye and was placed in a wheelchair. …
On Friday, January 16, 2026, I was involved in a head-on collision. During the accident, the airbags did not deploy, and the seatbelt failed to lock, which resulted in me not being properly restrained. As a result, I suffered a mild concussion along with significant bruising. In addition to this serious safety concern, we have made numerous complaints regarding ongoing electrical issues with the vehicle. These include the screens frequently changing languages and measurement units, blacking out entirely, or becoming unresponsive. The paddle shifters have also never functioned properly, despite the vehicle being serviced multiple times for this issue. What is especially concerning is that these same problems are widely reported by other Jeep owners online, yet they continue to go uninvestigated and unresolved. Given the safety implications, these issues warrant immediate attention.
"Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. …
What component or system failed or malfunctioned? Electrical system: infotainment display module, BCM, passive entry antenna, ignition/start system, and electronic power steering. Vehicle available for inspection. How was safety put at risk? The vehicle locked my children inside and would not start, requiring assistance to open it. The power steering failed for several hours, leaving the car unsafe to drive. Ongoing electrical instability creates unpredictable loss of critical functions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer? Some issues were confirmed by the dealer (screen blanking, key fob failure, antenna fault, software issues). Others, including the power steering failure and lock-in incident, were not reproduced but were documented and acknowledged. Has the vehicle or component been inspected? Yes. …

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -Forward collision system light on dash is illuminated, automatic locks do not engage after vehicle is in motion, paddle shifters do not work. All displays switched to Italian & from standard measurements to metric How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -Forward collision sensors appear to not work as well as doors do not automatically lock as they should. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes, my dealership is aware of this issue and referenced service bulletin S2108000249, this did "fix" these issues temporarily, however a week later this issues happened again. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? …
Hard shifting occurred. Then service 4WD light came on dash. After an oil change, the light went away, but the hard shifting is still there. An independent dealer replaced my transfer case as well as completed an update to the transmission. The hard shifting came back even worse, with almost every gear. Took to a Dodge/Ram/Jeep dealership who completed a TSB 21-015-23. Their next recommendation is to replace the valve body and if that doesn't fix it, then replace the transmission. They stated this recommendation came directly from Stillentis. Since this is a known issue from Stillantis, they should be issuing a recall immediately. Failure of the transmission can cause sudden power loss, unpredictable acceleration, stalling, and fire hazards. These things can in turn cause accidents and safety hazards.
June 2, 2023 power steering went out while driving, lights on dash came on, mileage on vehicle 15,869. Was out of town, stopped vehicle for about an hour, lights on dash no longer visible, power steering returned. Vehicle brought into dealership on June 22, 2023, EPS was updated. March 17, 2025 same thing happened, mileage 31,966. This time it happened when vehicle was turned on. Turned vehicle off several times, power steering returned, but engine light remained on for a day. March 19, 2023 brought vehicle into dealership and codes were cleared according to work order. It is next to impossible to turn or control vehicle when this happens. The wiper hose has disconnected twice since purchase of vehicle and has been reconnected at dealership both times.
My 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L experienced a sudden, simultaneous failure of multiple electrical, safety, and driver-assistance systems. Without warning, the instrument cluster illuminated a yellow warning light indicating that the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system was disabled and unavailable. Concurrently, the steering wheel paddle shifters completely stopped functioning, and the vehicle randomly reset its primary language setting to Italian reverted its system units to Metric and Celsius. Furthermore, critical user customization options in the Uconnect 5 infotainment system-specifically the auto-folding side mirrors option, automatic door locking preferences, and passenger seat controls-completely disappeared from the settings menus.
The radio has been replaced 3 times by the jeep dealer. The issue is over the air updates of the uconnect radio system fail and put the radio in Italian language disable foward collision safety features and other car features that I paid for need to also be enabled by the dealer that the dealer can only activate due to Stella's firewall issue that prevents people to work on their own cars and require the dealership software to fix. The radio replacement does not fix issue even though they replace 3 times. They don't actually have a fix and they are just putting band-aid on the problem. The update they send to the radio over the air corrupts the cars options.
