While driving at night I thought I could hear a scraping noise. I promptly rolled down my window and continued to accelerate slowly. I didn't hear the noise so proceeded home. A few miles later I pulled into my drive and a police officer pulled up to tell me metal was loose under my vehicle and shooting sparks out of the rear. The next morning I checked and a large piece of rusted metal was hanging by a thread so I removed it. I made an appointment to have the vehicle inspected and was shown that 2 of the 3 straps holding my gas tank in place were completely gone and the third is broken and rusted through. My vehicle is unsafe to drive and I had no idea. I looked to see if this was a recall issue and it is not. I searched to see if this is a common problem and found that it is extremely common across the entire Jeep line. …

I have owned my 2007 Jeep Commander for about ten months now. The problem I have is when my knee bumps the bottom of the ignition key (turning it to the left, & shutting the vehicle off) which is unusually located at the bottom portion of the console (I guess this vehicle wasn't meant for tall people). When this happens the vehicle immediately shuts off, causing the power steering to shut off as well. This has happened four times now. The last time it happened was Thursday, June 12, 2008 around 11:15 am. I was driving my 1 year old son to the babysitters house. My knee bumped the key as I was approaching a turn, shutting off the vehicle/power steering, so I kept going straight, and nearly crashed. Luckily, I slammed the brakes and stopped just in time. After this incident I realized how serious the problem really is. …

I purchased in November 2012 and ever since with each rain storm my interior floods and it is starting to affect electronics. I have service 4wd system after n23 recall and vehicle won't shift into 4 lo. I have service park assist and TPMS warning and had all four sensors replaced with warning recurring. I recently started losing all four door speakers intermittently and when they do work they sound horrible. Display on radio is starting to go black and dim. I have lights on dash display flash on and off when they want. I have crazy RPM fluctuation at idle and recently transmission feels like it is trying to shift and RPM fluctuations when cruising at hwy speeds. I have bumped the key on multiple occasions and the vehicle is essentially shut off and still moving. …

I just leased a 2007 Jeep cherokee in March of '07. And, it drives wonderfully! However, I've noticed a few (glitches) concerns lately with this vehicle. I have major leaks in my side rails right above the dashboard when it rains. I believe this is because of how the insulation was done on the actual roof as well as the doors. I've also noticed my passenger window sticking while lowering the window or raising the window. And, my windshield seems to be glistening now -- I'm thinking that those glistening small cracks will truly turn into major problems long-term! I am currently leasing and was seriously deciding to purchase this vehicle. But, with my concerns listed I'm not sure how long this Jeep Commander will last me financially. Hopefully these problems will be recalled and maybe my decision to purchase will change. I'm sure that these problems are not just affecting me. …

We have major leaks in both side rails right above the dash board. We noticed the leaks a couple of days after our car was delivered. It rains a lot in alaska, so basically our car leaks about everyday! We had taken our vehicle into two different dealers and one dealer said he could not find where the leak is coming from and the other dealer said to bring it back in the summer because it is frozen outside, since we took the vehicle in around October! I can't believe a car that is brand new has leaks! I am glad to see that another person has complained about the side rail leaks, I thought it was just my car! Maybe it should be recalled. I have other complaints about the vehicle regarding the steering wheel, which I have already complained about. But, my car has been at the dealer for two weeks now and they still can't figure out the problem. …

We purchased a 2007 Jeep Commander limited in September, 2007. After the first rains in October, 2007 the Jeep cabin was flooded with rain water entering the cabin via the front driver and passenger front pillars. The dealer claimed they could not reproduce the leaking and sent us away. The cabin flooded again following the next rain storm. This time dealer replaced moon roof gutter/drain on passenger side. Next rain storm flooding again and dealer replaced moon roof gutter/drain on the driver side. Upon return from the dealer electronic components began malfunctioning such as interior dome lights, automatic headlamps, intermittent wiper functions, etc. I suspect the deluge of water from the cabin flooding is now affecting the electronics in the dash, headliner, center console and doors. …
