Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Jeep Cherokee owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
I was driving my daughters to school when all of the sudden the Jeep stops. It was hard to turn the wheel so I can move the Jeep out the main road. This has happened on numerous times. I have taken it in and have had things replaced. From what I have read this is a on going issue, this is dangerous the whole car locks up out of the blue and I am scared to drive it, this is my only mode of getting around and it could cost me my life,
While backing out of a parking place, noted car behind me and attempted to brake but hit gas pedal instead, resulting in impact to right side of other vehicle causing damage to right front door and post of that vehicle. My vehicle sustained damage to the rear bumper, requiring replacement..
When shifting into reverse the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward, causing a collision to occur. Vehicle was included in the safety improvement campaign #97i002000. Also, dealer installed the shift interlock which has not remedied the problem. Please give any further details.
While driving at low speed 10mph, pulling into parking space, vehicle went into open throttle position, applied brakes could not stop vehicle, impact 12:00 position, went into a building, rpms unknown, causing loss of control, wiring under the dash board was disconnected.
While driving uphill in rainy weather, vehicle suddendly accelerated and the back wheels fishtailed and to avoid the oncoming traffic lane, consumer turned to the right and vehicle hit embankment and turned over.
Jeep lurched forward as engine went to full throttle upon starting motor, brakes had no effect, car went 30 feet, and went up a curb which launched the Jeep in the air, it landed on another vehicle.
While driving and at an intersection with foot on brake vehicle suddenly accelerated without any warning. Dealer acknowledged the problem as the throttle being stuck wide open, but did not fix it.
My 1995 Jeep Cherokee sport experienced sudden/rapid acceleration and crashed into another vehicle when shifting from park into drive. Chrysler claims driver error, as if I do not know the difference between the brake and gas pedals. I am the original owner and principal driver of the vehicle and it was not driver error. I am not the only person to experience this situation. There is a problem that Chrysler refuses to accept responsibility for. There was a press release in April 97 with regards to this problem but the recall was not issued until September 1997 , too late for me with an 8-27-97 incident. This is negligence on the part of Chrysler. Please advise.
Springs popped out from the emergency parking brake, causing emergency parking brake to become inoperable. Also, when consumer applied the brakes vehicle won't slow down, and consumer had to keep pushing hard on the brakes. In addition, the fuel injection "o"-rings leaked. Consumer kept having different problems with vehicle, and the dealer couldn't determine the problem.
Cranked vehicle in park when passing d it droped in reverse, vehicle lunged backward spinning out, grabbed the shift and yanked it back in drive, vehicle zoom down the hill, and spinned throwing gravel, feet were on the brake pedal, resulting in hitting a tree.
