On this Car the AC drain hose causes unnecessary expedited rust of the subframe as it drips on the subframe where the steering rack and pinion are. this causes that part of the subframe to rust abnormally faster than normal due to the water. The hose whould have been redirected away from the subframe to prevent safety issues.
Subframe on passenger side is rusted through creating a safety hazard. I was unaware of this issue on 1999-2002 Honda Accords but when researching for the cause of a noise coming from the front end found plenty of articles but no corrective action from Honda.
4th July my wife was in a collision which resulted in her suffering memory loss, speech issues , stutter, a severe concussion and weeks and weeks on continued therapy to include physical therapy, speech therapy and continued care. The air bag didnt deploy . No reason with the damage sustained by the car it shouldn't have deployed. My three children where also in the car to include my 12yr old son in the front passenger. My child sustained minor bumps and bruises but as a result of failed equipment my wife nearly forgot who I was to include last last ten years of our lives amoungst other things , and could possibly have most her life. One of the doctor diagnosis is : concussion with loss of consciousness, subsequent encounter. (speech pathological treatment plan ongoing ) my wife is also unable to work and provide , and take care of my children in my absence. …
I was pulling into the parking space after driving the vehicle for 45 mins (approx. 20 miles). When I was ready park the car and switch off the ignition, the car suddenly accelerated way too fast and hit the building in front. I was driving into the parking space at less than around 10 MPH as I had to make 3 turns within 100 feet before coming into vacant parking space. My leg was also in the break pedal as I made those turns after getting into the private property from il rte 83. I can definitely confirm that my leg was not in gas pedal as my right leg was on the break pedal to make those turns and stop the car in the parking space. It all happened in the matter of few seconds and there was no time to react. The car came to halt only after hitting the building. Both air bags deployed as soon as the car hit the building and there was heave smoke inside the car. …
Routine maintenance revealed shocking finding: the r/f corner of subframe is rusted through and breaking. Dealer advises it should be replaced asap and that the car is dangerous and should not be driven. Obviously it makes no sense to spend the $2,500+tax that the dealer proposes, as the car is barely worth that much. This is a design flaw in 1998-2002 hondas as the air conditioner drips right onto this part of the subframe. The incontrovertible evidence is the dozens of other complaints for subframe rust filed here with the NHTSA and elsewhere - all on the passenger side - as well as the fact that Honda changed the design on the 2003 models. I don't know why the NHTSA is waiting to force a recall?? What if I hadn't gotten the maintenance for another few months?? What could have potentially happened?? Could I have lost control of the car as the bottom partially fell out?? …
Dear NHTSA: I am writing about my 2000 Honda Accord coupe which had an accident on May 22nd, 2010. I was driving in dry conditions along I-85 north in jefferson county, georgia when the left rear tire suddenly blew out causing my car to flip and roll over. We do not know what caused the blowout. I lost consciousness briefly and my neck was severely broken. I had to have an operation and will be out of work for at least three months. My son was injured but not as severely as me, with many cuts on his face and ear. Two other occupants received many bruises and cuts on arms, legs and faces. The car was a total loss. There are two issues that seem to point to defects in the car. The first is that the roof collapsed so much that it hit my head and almost killed me. The second issue is that none of the four air bags deployed. …
My son was driving his 2000 Honda Accord going on to 270 north all of a sudden his hood came popping up smashing his windshield and he was lucky he was in the lane closest to the brim. He could not see and was lucky no one was in front or at the side of him. The police officer that arrived asked us if this was a 2000-2002 Honda and my son said yes. He explained to us this is the 5th Honda vehicle in a month that this same thing occurred. His daughters same car as my son did this a month ago. He recommended to me to email you and let you know. Obviously this is an issue, and if this columbus ohio police officer has seen 5 I wonder what has been going on in other states. While driving my 2000 Honda Accord it made loud banging noise. I took the car into the mechanic to discover that the sub-frame was rusted. After investigating, I come to find out that this is happening to alot of Honda accords made in (1999-2002). (http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/investigations/center-for-auto-safety-requesting-recall-of-1-5-million-Honda-accords-for-rust-issue-in-sub-frame) further more, Honda changed the design location of the drainage hose in 2003, and said it was unrelated to sub-frame rust. NHTSA needs to do something about this before some is killed because of Honda failed engineering. The cost to replace the sub-frame is about $1300.00 + incidentals.
I noticed that during side wind or going over dips in highway the vehicle would wander and sway making steering quite difficult and so I had midas do a 4 wheel alignment which didn't help. The midas inspector told me that he wasn't able to guarantee the alignment, since he thought it had been wrecked and that the frame was out of kilter. However I researched online, and found that this was a typical design flaw on this year and model, where the A/C liquid discharge was right above the sub-frame and had rusted the rear cross member completely loose from the frame. Since I am on social security-disability, I am unable to pay to replace part #50200-584-a00-rr beam.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord coupe v6 the window latches and driver's side door have completely locked up again this is the second time I've paid out of my pocket 500$ for a door that should have been recalled years ago considering all the videos I have seen of this exact same problem with this exact same years and models I'm serious about considering a class action suit against Honda for ignoring this issue and now yet again the driver side door has locked up again this needs to be recalled there's thousands of cars same year same problem and you have done nothing to right this wrong also the frame bracket of the seat is unstable
