Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Honda Accord owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The replacement of the failing ignition distributor (engine light is on), which is essential part of the emission control system, is required on my 1995 Honda Accord wagon lx. In addition, there is a significant decrease to the mileage and speed sensor May need to be replaced. According to Honda north America the extension of the emission warranty (TSB# 98-081) granted to all 1995-v6, 1996-all and 97-all accords, is not applicable to my year and model. Since the same exact issues were reported for vehicles covered by extension of the emission warranty (TSB#98-081), Honda should also extend this coverage to 1995 v-4 accords.
While putting car into drive consumer tapped accelerater and car took off at about 40 MPH. The only way to stop vehicle was to hit another car. Also, airbags deployed, and car was full of smoke inside. Car has been towed to a Honda dealer. The consumer had a second accident under indentical circumstances. The manufacturer investigated the first accident but did not acknowledge that the vehicle was defective. The consumer had contacted the manufacturer again and is waiting for response.
While backing into a parking space and applying accelerator pedal, vehicle suddenly accelerated, causing the vehicle to take off ( no cruise control). It backed into three other vehicles while brake pedal was applied, and would not stop. After hitting the other s,consumer was able put gear shift into park and turned off key. Dealer / mfr. Notified. Can NHTSA provide further detail on this matter.
While driving with cruise control on and vehicle had sudden acceleration. Occupant pressed the brakes, and had a rear end collision. Also, driver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy, which did not protect occupants in the accident. Never been to the dealer. Please provide further information.
Speedometer failed to display accurate speed while driving starting the vehicle it displayed 19 MPH then jump to 70-85mph back to 30. The mechanic suggested failed speedometer and contact dealer in event of recall. When taken to the dealer the vehicle cost $400.00 for repairs.
Speedometer failed to display accurate speed. Stuck at 19 MPH when cold start. While driving, MPH will jump to accurate MPH and intermittently back to 19 MPH. Odometer does not roll when stuck. This has been happening since last summer. Noticed other complaint in NHTSA database.
Often after completing long freeway drive of over 2hours in length and when coming to a complete stop after exiting the freeway, engine RPM suddenly jumped to over 3,000 and vehicle began to surge forward into the intersection. Had to exert extreme force on the brake to keep the car from accelerating forward. After pulling over to the side of the road with the engine still racing uncontrollably, shifted into park and began to release the brake. As brake was released, engine RPM began to drop, returning to normal idle. Turned off and restarted engine. Problem did not happend again as drive resumed. Took vehicle to Honda dealer on two separate occassions after problem happened. Dealer unable to find cause. Reported problem to Honda motor corporation. They claimed that had no reports of such problem, no service bullentin or recall notices on this problem. …
When driving the vehicle about 25mph, and taking foot off the gas pedal, the vehicle will increase its speed instead of decreasing the speed. When coming to a complete stop and taking foot off the brake pedal, the vehicle will just take off without foot being on the gas pedal.
While driving and upon pressing down on brakes, vehicle lunged forward. Took vehicle to dealer. Problem was not remedied. Consumer was parking into a parking space with her foot on the brake when vehicle suddenly accelerated over a curb, vehicle was stopped by an elevated sidewalk.
Was making a "u" turn when vehicle suddenly accelerated for no reason. Had foot on brakes at time. Shifted into neutral, but vehicle failed to stop. Finally took key out of ignition & vehicle rolled to a stop. Vehicle towed to dealership.
