I was driving 65 MPH on a one lane highway, right when someone went by in the other lane. My front hood moulding (hood trim piece) flew off and hit my windshield. Then drug across the cab of the truck before landing in the road. This debris was now in the road causing other people to have to swerve to miss it. I turned around and put my hazards on and grabbed it from the middle of the road. This caused other motorists to stop in the roadway for me or go into the oncoming lane of traffic to go around me. The service center from the dealership I bought it at said I would have to bring it in for estimate and didn't confirm if others have had this same issue. This happened one day ago and it has not been inspected by anyone. There was no warnings of any kind. I didn't notice it shaking prior or anything, it just abruptly flew off.
Twice in the last few weeks my tailgate has opened while driving the vehicle. Prior to this, the tailgate has never dropped while driving since the vehicle has been new. The tailgate was not down whenever I left, but it was down whenever I got to my location. I did not hit the tailgate button to drop the tailgate at any time before during or after this trip. On the one occurrence, items were lost from the bed of the truck, which could cause a road hazard for other motorists. There were no warning lights or notifications that the tailgate was open on the driver information center or elsewhere. I have service scheduled with the dealer on 5/2/25 to inspect the vehicle. I am unsure at what point in the trip the tailgate opened.
2024 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving approximately 75 MPH, the front chrome grille deflector came loose from the passenger side of the vehicle and started flapping. Before I could safely pull over it became detached and flew over the hood of the vehicle striking the front windshield before nearly hitting another moving vehicle behind me. This caused damage to the hood, the other driver did not stop. While the 2024 model vehicle is not listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE) recalled on the 2022 model, GM lists the same part number for the 2022-2024 models, therefore the recall should include these years as well. The failure mileage was 27,500.
I own a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation. The front upper grille molding/trim has become loose and is separating from the vehicle. The attachment points/clips are no longer securely holding the molding in place. I am concerned that the molding could completely detach while driving, particularly at highway speeds, creating a road hazard for other motorists. The vehicle has not been involved in a collision or other event that would explain the failure. I have photographs documenting the loose molding and believe this is a potential safety defect that should be investigated.
While driving 65mph in my 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate on Interstate 270 in Hilliard, Ohio my chrome grill deflector just flew off and hit my windshield. It then went over my truck and almost caused a major accident with the cars and semi-trucks behind me. I was lucky to maintain control of my own vehicle! It appears to me that the mounting fractured and it looks like manufacturing defect. Looks like the same issues recalled in 2022 year models. How many have to die before GM fixes this issue? They now want $1,500 for a new grill on my 2024 truck.
