The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle drove over a slight bump in the road. The contact stated that the vehicle bounced, and then there was an abnormal banging sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact recently had work completed on the exhaust system. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic who had performed the exhaust repair. The mechanic raised the vehicle on the lift and became aware that the rear passenger's and driver's side cross members, supports for the shock absorbers, and the rear sub frame had extensive corrosion. The contact was advised by the mechanic that the banging sound was coming from the shock absorbers striking the bed of the truck while driving over the bump in the roadway. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. …

While driving on the highway, the passenger shock mount that is welded to the rear forward mounted crossmember snapped off due to rust. I have taken many pictures of the damage. I am a Master Certified ASE and Ford technician with my PA Emissions and Safety inspection licenses. I inspected the damage to my truck at my shop and removed the bed. I found further rust and damage at the drivers frame and rear shock mount at the rearward mounted crossmember. The whole rear frame section is rotting away. This caused the vehicle to sway heavily and change the driving attributes of the vehicle. I have not contacted police or the insurance company. There were no warning lamps of any kind.

This truck has a 5 star crash rating, but is rusting very badly due to a defect in the design of the truck. There are tracks in the roof that lead down behind the cab. The water rolls down and then there is an indentation that holds the water. This water holding creates rust, horrible rust. The rockers, frame and the fuel pump rusted badly due to this defect. The 5 star crash rating comes into huge doubt due to such rust from the design defect.

I am the original owner of a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 (VIN: [redacted] ) and began experiencing serious mechanical and electrical issues while the vehicle was still under warranty around 40,000 miles. These included engine RPM fluctuations at idle, vibrations under acceleration above 65 MPH, and intermittent misfiring - all symptoms that are now believed to be early indicators of defective lifters or valve train components. I also experienced repeated electrical failures including a rear turn signal malfunction due to melting/corroded taillight sockets, a thumping rear-end noise, differential knocking, and body panel issues (hood lifting at highway speeds). These were reported multiple times to authorized GMC dealers (Mike Haggerty GMC and Rizza GMC), but I was told there was no issue or no repairs were made. …

The vehicle's frame has severely rusted to the point of structural compromise. My certified mechanic determined on December 10, 2024, that the frame could not pass the state safety inspection due to advanced corrosion. Welding is now required to restore structural integrity. The truck has remained inoperable and sidelined since that date. The frame is available for inspection upon request, and I have photos, repair invoices, and a mechanic's written evaluation. This same frame was previously reworked by GMC twice: May 7, 2018 - Frame treated for premature rust. November 4, 2019 - Frame recoated after prior treatment failed due to improper descaling. Despite these reworks under GMC direction, the issue has progressed to a dangerous level. The structural integrity of the frame is compromised. …
