Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2000 Ford Crown Victoria owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

I was driving across the causeway when my car started shaking. I turned down the radio and it sounded like it back firing. I pulled over and called my mechanic to meet me where I broked down. H immediately saw the problem but he could not fix it. I had to bring it to another shop to get it repaired. Luckily when this happened I was getting off the causeway because that bridge is 24 miles long.

On 15 nov 2009, my car started spitting and sputtering, I thought it was bad gasoline. On 16 nov 2009, I had my car checked by my garage, was told that #5 spark plug and coil was bad due to leaking coolant at my intake manifold. After contacting my local Ford dealer thinking I could just buy a part vs. A whole manifold (like I was told I needed), I learned that there had been a recall for this problem and repairs were covered by Ford for only 7 years of auto's life. Well naturally, my car is 9 yrs old now and I'm facing a $1100.00 repair bill. I was told the manifold could rupture at any time leaving me and my 2 yr old grandson stranded at any time. I feel like Ford is holding me hostage. With the spitting and sputtering the car was doing, we could have been in a serious accident. I have always driven Ford/Mercury products, but I'm not impressed with what's just happened. …

The engine in my 2000 Crown Victoria stalled at a stop sign, and I lost the power steering and power brakes. The car turned into a tank and could not be controlled. It was extremely scary because I could have hit some innocent people which would have meant another lawsuit for Ford. I had to put one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator to get the car to an auto service center. At 38,938 miles, the car needed a new idle speed control motor, air filter, and mass air flow sensor. I believe that these parts were defective and wrote a letter to william clay Ford, the chairman of Ford motor company. While the car was still under warranty, the overdrive switch had to be replaced because the warning light would not go off. I felt that there should have been no charge, but the dealer charged me $200 for labor. …

Nar 01/15/2003. The idle air control motor failed which caused the vehicle not to idle and stall if the consume did not drive with one foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator. The dealer suggested replacing the part, but not under any warranty. The consumer discovered that if he taps on the componet it will work for awhile. Also the lower trim on the windshield vibrated and the consumer had to place a card board box between the trim and the windshield to stop the noise. The right passenger window will not operate when the sun heats up and shines on that side of the vehicle when the vehicle is parked. The dealer inspected and greased the track, but the problem continued. The consumer believed it was an electrical issue, because as soon as the door cools off and is parked in the shade, the window operated fine.

In June 2004, when my 2000 Crown Victoria had 37082 miles on it, the air conditioner failed to blow cold air; the vehicle was inspected by Ford quality care in gaithersburg, md, where it was determined that the problem was associated with the compressor and the dryer, both of which were replaced. The compressor (part #f3az-19V703-aarm - $391.59) and dryer (part #yw1z-19c836-aa - $139.30) along with other smaller parts were replaced for $543.12, and labor brought to total bill to $1010.62. I asked that the parts be returned, but was told they were core and could not be returned. Had the failure occurred 1083 miles earlier I assume it would have been covered under the warranty.

Cooling system · 37,000 miles · Jun 2004

In January 2005, when my 2000 Ford Crown Victoria had 41573 miles on it, the heater fan failed to blow warm air. A local service garage in gaithersburg, md tested the system and determined that the blower control module had malfunctioned. The module was replaced (part #xw1h-19e624-ab, made in brazil, $95.88), and labor to replace the module brought the total bill to $259.27. It should be noted that only 4000+ miles earlier the compressor and dryer had been replaced to provide cool air during the summer.

Defective plastic intake manifold prone to cracking and leaking coolant. This item was previously reported to NHTSA and Ford was required to pay for repairs already done and to extend warranty. I'm told that warranty expired for something that a recall should have taken care of. I'm told that cost to repair is in excess of $1400. Contacted dealer and Ford asking for replacement of part and I will pay labor but both declined.

Plastic intake cracks at heater hose connection. This is a police car which can idle for long periods at a time.this condition leaks antifreeze into the well of the spark plug which causes a misfire, and the car overheats if not constantly watched.we have changed manifolds after calling Ford and we were told only a crack behind the alternator was under warranty.
