Tl* the contact owned a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. After driving for approximately three hours and turning off the engine, there was a strong fuel odor. The contact noticed fuel leaking from the top of the tank. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 130,400.
We started smelling gas coming from the car took it to our mechanic he told me it was probably leaking from the fuel pump it is a common problem with this particular model of vehicle $600 later we had a new fuel pump installed and no gas smell could have been ugly if gas would have ignited I have been looking online and apparently my mechanic is correct it is a common problem
Vehicle has been experiencing faulty fuel gauge readings as well as fuel range readings, since May of 2009 (I purchased it in 2008). It has been in the dealers shop 2 dealerships, numerous times for this problems, have supposedly had the sensor changed 4 times (under warrantee) and the fifth time, they would not do anything saying that they could not find a problem. It was at that time out of warrantee. It is now in the shop again for the same issue because since the problem has never been fixed and I was told that this has been an ongoing issue with GM and they basically refuse to own up to the problem or actually fixing what needs to be done. No recall on this issue but the Chevy trailblazer has had the same identical issue and there was a recall siting a safety concern. …
I had just purchased my 2007 Chevy Uplander with a full tank of gas, so I didn't know the tank capacity or the mileage range for a full tank in this vehicle. I was traveling on I-75 southbound near cincinnati, ohio. Traffic was heavy and I was in the passing lane going 65 MPH while passing another vehicle, when my engine just simply cut out without warning. The gas gauge indicated that there was still over a quarter tank and the computer read out said, fuel range 120 miles. In order to safely get my van off the highway I had to cross over 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder and pull off. I was positive I was going to be hit from behind as I tried to make it to the opposite side of the road without power. I was able to pull over and had to walk to the next exit and buy a can and gas. The entire experience was very dangerous as I was over 300 miles from home and all alone.
Remember to keep your Uplander's gas tanks at least half full! Uplander fuel gauge shows gas tank is a quarter full, however, vehicle immediately runs out of gas whenever on a downhill slope. This has happened several times when parked or sitting at a light on a downhill sloped driveway. Unable to start the Uplander in these cases, (sitting or parked facing downhill) as I was in my parking stall, I had to call for roadside assistance. After aaa pulled the Uplander out of downhill parking space onto level ground, the Uplander started up without any problem. The gas gauge then showed that I had a little more than a quarter of a tank and I was able to start the engine and drive the vehicle. Took it to rancho valley Chevrolet, phillips ranch, ca, and replaced the 2006 instrument panel with a re-built instrument panel.
This has happened several times me and my grand daughter are headed out shopping on highway 26 in oregon summit hiway the rig just shuts down ckicking the doors windows made funny noise and gas doesn't read full when full ,lights dime at night dash lights go out you have to wiggle the little dash board thing to make them go back on side mirrors won't adjust with panel in door ,and just this past week started doing same thing shut down come back on off by itself so had pulled starter, brand new battery and alternator all good this has to be an electrical issue this is extremely dangerous seeings how I live in the mountains on a very curvy roads
The car intermittently tries to start the crank keeps turning but does not start. As well as I was traveling on freeway with a big rig on the side of me and the car stalled and steering locked. Thank god I managed to glide over to the exit lane. I was terrified as was my passenger. When I looked at the gauges I noticed I was out of gas, but I had just put in $20 . Chevy sent out tow truck to give me gas, but car still would not start. Finally hours later car was taken to Chevy. When Uplander was finished they said it was electrical short due to water in lines. Weather was great no rain or puddles anywhere. Uplander almost stalled on another night lights dimmed and tires stopped ,but then it worked fine. Strange very!!! Driver side sliding door opens or shuts when it wants. …
Dt: the contact owned a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander. The vehicle will stall if the gasoline tank is below a half a tank and on a hill. Contact's wife hit a garage because the vehicle stalled. She was pregnant, and also had a two month old son that was in the vehicle. The dealership acknowledged the problem, and their answer was not to let the vehicle go below a half tank. There was no way to correct the problem, and told him to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer said they could not correct the problem, and they will not pay for the damages. GM did say they would send a representative to look at the car because they could not do anything until they look at it. Caused an accident. This happened two weeks ago. The vehicle hit the beam, but there was no property damage.
