Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2017 Chevrolet Traverse owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

The driver door main window control panel and steering wheel, where the airbags seem to deploy from, have both had to be repaired/recalled parts installed on multiple occasions however the main window control panel still does not work and it started shorting out my battery ultimately locking my keys in the ignition, leaving OnStar as well as my key fob panic alarm unable to be used. After getting the steering wheel recalled airbag part installed at Penske Chevy, I received yet another recall notice saying that despite that install they still feared for my safety driving it, and that they would let me know when a new part was available. However now my battery is completely dead, I have not been m able to work and have been evicted from my home forced to live in my sweltering 2017 Traverse with no AC, No OnStar emergency services, not even a panic alarm to rely on. …

7/5/22 it has now been over a month since we started to have our car serviced at Ourisman Chevrolet of Bowie. On 7/3/22 while driving up a hill in our neighborhood the engine shut off, the brakes gave out, and the power steering stopped working. Had we been anywhere else my children, husband, and I could be dead from being in a serious car accident. This problem was confirmed by the dealer and reported to be caused by a "defective part" being installed. When I inquired about why there wasn't a recall for this part I was informed that it is a rare defect but they the service department receives a vehicle with identical problems every 3-4 months. We received no warning lamps, messages, or other signs that this was going to happen. During the week of Memorial Day we noticed the fuel gauge misreading and the air conditioning blowing warm. This problem was repeatedly reported. …

Passenger side mirror blind spot detection started flickering and then remained on while the vehicle is in park and in motion. Shortly afterwards it stopped working all together and began receiving a service side detection warning light on dashboard. While backing up the camera still working but there is no sensor working that detects close people or vehicles. Extremely dangerous for little kids that almost ran behind vehicle. While driving down the highway, I was almost involved in accidents while attempting to make a lane change and did not see vehicle in next lane as it was in blindspot. Issue seems to be very wide spread with this model. A service bulletin was issued for Acadia (same design as the Traverse) for same detection warning. GM dealership reported that the issue is also common which is why the parts needed for repair are on a backorder status with no ETA. …

Sometimes my backup camera will not show a screen. I have considerable amount of trouble trying to connect my phone to the car. Hands down can I use the GPS on the car. Lights do not come on my dashboard. The RPM bounces up and down from starting it all the way to the while you're driving. The car does not want to stay started it does not like to go it does not hands down not like sitting still. I've either replaced or cleaned four different parts for this problem. 2017 Chevy traverse is a horrible vehicle, that doesn't like to be used. Honestly just take it back and junk it

I had my charger plugged into the charge port and for no reason smoke started pouring out of it really bad while I had my kids in the car. Also my chevy link touch screen starting going in and out. My back up camera stopped working, my safety feature of the pre collision sytem stopped working. All of these things happened all at the same time. With all of these safety issues. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle or transporting my kids in it at this point because it appears to be a hazard to mine and my kids safety

The electrical in the car is bad. I know others with Chevrolets and are having the same issue. The power windows nor doors work on my passenger side with the key or door controls. Also their is a squeaking noise when braking in my brake pedal. With new pads and rotors the car don't stop smoothly, feel vibration in the steering wheel. The car is already having an error for the EVAP canister purge control valve. The car isn't tht old to be needing to replace this already.

While driving my entire dashboard goes dark and once I shut my car off it did not start again. Brought it to the mechanic who is rated as 5 stars, to have no codes come up. He has been looking for the answer for over 5 months now. Car will start for a short time then do the same thing all over again. No clicking when turning the key, new battery put in, remote control module replaced and car still doesn't start. I still owe on this car and have no idea what to do with it.

Dec 2025

For over two months now I have been dealing with GM as well as different dealerships and auto mechanics to try and repair a safety feature on my 2017 Chev Traverse. I have been told by all of them the same issue or needing items replaced yet there are NO parts. They have been on back order for 1+ years with no ETA in sight. This is now causing the computer in the vehicle to malfunction to cause more damage that also cannot yet be repaired. New issue while driving my vehicle - the entire dash cluster goes black (all still tied to the same issue). Speedometer and all gauges drop to 0 (zero) as if the car was not running or turned on. After a few minutes it came back on with every single service/ error light on the dash. This happened 4 times in the span of half an hour drive. …

The component/system that is malfunctioning is coding P-0826. Dealership says replace Transmission.Based on my experience with the vehicle, the transmission is not the main issue. There are symptoms of an electrical issue that is causing the vehicle to lose power, rough shift, stutter and hard shift. This situation began when traveling back from GA to NC. After having stopped at a rest stop, I proceeded to get back on the highway and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate as I merged on to the highway. There were no warming lights, dashboard signaling or anything that happened prior to this to warm of this unsafe issue. With traffic behind me already at speeds of 70mph+, this situation could potentially have caused an accident in which I would have been unable to avoid because the car decelerated, hesitated and did not leave me with anyway to maneuver out of the lane. …
