What owners report
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the front passenger's and rear driver's side rims were cracked. The front passenger's side rim was replaced by the dealer under warranty, while the rear driver's side rim was replaced with an aftermarket part. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but declined assistance. The owner expressed concerns that the remaining factory rims might also crack and were prone to failure while driving. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Vehicle had 14,000 miles and tires were rotated by dealership twice, last one 3 weeks ago. Was driving 55 mph and had a sudden complete deflation and stopped immediately. Tire is completely separated. The outer sidewall is completely separated from the rest of the tire. The tire has never had an injury or other issues. The tire rotation was at Gerry Lane Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, LA. I took the tire in the same day to Gerry Lane Chevrolet service department and they were not helpful. They did not even look at the tire. I am having all 4 tires replaced tomorrow at Costco and will keep the damaged tire and 3 others for any forensic evaluation by your department or designate. I am concerned that this maybe the canary in the coal mine and if there is a manufacturing defect other lives may be at risk. Look forward to urgent follow up. …
With cruise control activated, at least 10 times since I bought this expensive vehicle the automated emergency braking activated at highway speeds - causing the vehicle to full brake without warning and nearly causing an accident each time (handling risk and risk of being impacted from behind by a following vehicle). I have formally reported this issue to dealers in MN and MT, and they only thing they said was they could not duplicate the condition during brief test rides and this was not a know problem. I personally know this was a known problem and GM did a safety recall for this condition on MY15-20 Suburbans. This condition is definitely an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. In additional, the original tires supplied by GM (Firestone) failed under normal driving conditions after only about 35,000 miles, and both GM and Firestone denied there was any warranty coverage. …
The 22 inch rims on my vehicle are cast aluminum I'm assuming. I have had several cracks causing me to rapidly loose air on the tires while driving at highway speeds. I have had three cracks in different rims within the last week and have had the rims repaired twice. The vehicle has 75k miles on it. This is a major concern and safety issue. I've never seen that many cracks happen at once. Some say well your hitting potholes but that isn't the case here.
Rim corrosion resulting in loss of air pressure. The inner portion of the rim is corroding causing the tires to loose pressure. Depending on the amount of corrosion this could lead to a catastrophic failure at some point due to sudden loss of pressure. I took my vehicle to a tire shop thinking there was a puncture causing it to loose pressure. The manager explained to me that the pressure loss was due to corrosion of the alloy rim and that it is common with Chevrolet vehicles with factory alloy rims. The only solution to the problem is to have the rims possibly refurbished or replaced.
The car was slowly making right hand turn when we heard a loud noise and stopped the car Once we got out, we saw that right wheel was completely torn out. We have videos and pictures. If it would happened on the higher speed, we would be dead. The car shop told us that they never seen anything like that in the past. Per their report, upper control arm broke off then the rest followed: lower control arm, ball joint, outer tie rod, poss inner tie rod, sway bar link, abs sensor connector. Consumer also learned from dealer that certain parts do not exist anymore and new ones are available.
Front passenger Spindle / Thimble that connects the lower ball joint sheared off. Suburban drops to ground, bolt end of lower ball joint hits and breaks through back of wheel that results in a deflated tier. Repair items listed by Chevy Service Center. Replace right lower ball joint Alignment Replace right front steering knuckle Replace right front wheel, monitor and stem, reprogram Replace broken front spoiler Replace RF fender liner With the low speed of travel , about 8mph there were no safety issues. Vehicle and broken steering knuckle has been inspected by Service Agent and Manager at Fred Bean Chevy, Doylestown, PM. Their position is normal wear, "We must have had impact at some time to cause initial fracture". Extended Warranty agrees with view stated from Fred Bean. Our insurance company is sending an agent to inspect. No warning lamps, messages, etc presented in driver display.
I own a 2016 Chevy Suburban ltz purchased feb 29, 2016. It is now at the dealer and for a second time dealing with a vibration issue starting at approximately 43 MPH and continuing to worsen as speed increases. The tires have been road forced balance but vibration is still present. This is the second Suburban with issues, the 2015 I had was so problematic that GM did trade assistance to get me out of it, but it still cost me money. The current 2016 Suburban as only 1600 miles on it and vibration issues began at approximately 900 miles. I cannot describe the inconvenience and frustration I am experiencing for a vehicle costing more than $70,000. GM knows there is a problem and their lack of fixing it or addressing it is nothing short of criminal theft. …
