I have had problems since day one on this Suburban. Most recently the two above. I checked the warranty work that was done on my Suburban and it was over a page of claims. I just cannot remember the dates the items I checked occured. The fuel pump problem was long in the coming, they just didn't know what the problem was. I spent outside of warranty hundreds of dollars on the fuel system. This left us stranded 3 times! This last time cost me $765. Today, the ABS sytem died. They say it's going to cost me close to a $1000 to repair. I purchased the Suburban because it was safe to carry my wife and 7 kids. So far, we have been stuck on the road, lost vacation time and just can't feel safe anymore. Now I don't have brakes. Thanks for letting me vent. Kent dold
At the end of a 1320 mile (round) trip from fairfax, virginia to brunswick, georgia and back, the left front wheel hub suddenly disassembled, locking up the wheel and sending my 2000 Chevrolet Suburban out of control. Fortunately, I had left I-95, wher I had been travelling for 10 1/2 hours at 70 MPH, and was travelling on a side road. There was no warning. The wheel made a loud, grinding noise and then immediately locked up. Upon having the vehicle towed to the local Chevrolet dealer for repair, the technicians examined the wheel and found no apparent reason why the wheel should have disassembled itself. I see no other option other than a defect in the product. …
Re 2000 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4. Vehicle has steering difficulties (vehicle can completely change lanes within 2 lines on the road, loose steering at times, steering wheel jumps when turning curves) which were reported to dealer several times. Dealer blamed tires which were not recalled. The jump/pop in steering when rounding curves was said to be due to lack of lubrication upon construction of vehicle-somewhat improved. Steering column still moves (feels loose at times) and feels as though will disconnect or tire rod will break when this happens while driving. At 43,000 miles front end differential had to be repaired, just over every 20,000 miles brake disc seems to need replaced. Vehicle does not go completely into park or gear and sometimes pops out (thought to need linkage adjustment, but vehicle has cable so cannot be adjusted according to repair person). …
Major tread separation on the right rear of our new Suburban, at highway speed and near boise, idaho. Fortunately the vehicle was removed from the freeway without loss of control. The boise, idaho Firestone dealer refused to warrantee the tire, saying the cause was abuse. The tire is 6 months old and can be proved to be monitored regularly. The dealer required that we pay retail for the replacement tire, without any assistance. The tread failure is exactly like the description of the wilderness at failures. We want to bring this to your attention because of our traumatic experience and the fact that the le 16" tire is not on the recall list. We would also appreciate your assistance in getting the remaining three tires replaced, as we are not comfortable in driving our new vehicle any longer. …
Electrical- power windows inoperable for the first 8 months that we owned this vehicle, involved 5 trips to the service department before problem was fixed. Body design? Problem - tires did not clear vehicle body without rubbing, causing irreversible damage to the tires. To the extent that the dealer keeps recommending us to buy 4 new tires when ever they service our vehicle. Brakes - possible that there is a kink in the brake booster vacuum supply hose. I need to suggest to dealer that they consider this for a problem that were having with a noise and vibration coming from the front end when you press and release the brake pedal. Dealer recommends that we buy 4 new tires, the problem with that diagnoses is that we also hear the noise when the car is not moving! I wonder if they read their TSB's (tiresize: p265/70r16)( dot number: tire size: p265/70r16 )
Original wheel has a crack going through the entire rim. No external damage to the rim just a crack that appears to be ready to cause complete failure of the rim. I have pictures of the cracked wheel which is very scarey when you imagine our family of 6 driving at 65-70 MPH while on vacation. I have kept the wheel for review by anyone that would like to see it in hopes that if there is a problem, this might help avoid unnecessary problems. The crack appears to have been there for some time as it is not a clean metal appearance. It is filled with what appears to be road dirt and looks as if it has been there for a while.
The tire developed severe tread displacement and disfigurement. Luckily, we noticed the vibration when it started and pulled off immediately. We had very little warning. It started all of a sudden. We were on the expressway, at 70 MPH, with 5 people and a load of luggage. It was 98 degrees out at the time the tire failed. The tire was kept by the Chevrolet dealer in fernandina beach. Fl. Their name is ron anderson Chevrolet, [phone]. David dubose in service has the tires. They replaced all 4 of the wilderness tires on the vehicle.( dot number: n/a tire size: p265/70r16 )
My 3 yr old son has received 2nd degree burns to 3 of his fingers from reaching through the rim of our Suburban. I would like to see all car makers to make the rims differently so little fingers do not get into danger! I have called GM as of 10-13-05. I would like to see some type of guard placed on all rims to prevent this from happening to someone else. Please contact me to advise me of your findings.
Dt: the contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 01t001000, concerning the tires:tread/belt. The vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall. This caused the tire to blowout on the front passenger's side. When he contacted the dealership, they claimed the tire was not included due to the serial number. The tire has been replaced at consumer's expense.
The Firestone tire company had issued a recall (01t-001) to the consumer, and the consumer contacted the manufacturer, the consumer was told an option of replacing the tires and getting cash refund from local dealer, the dealer refused to process cash refund stating that the recall did not include cash refund option and the consumer did not know what action to take.
