What owners report
Vehicle is developing body sheet-metal rust due to an apparent manufacturer painting defect or incomplete paint during the assembly process. Both rear quarter panels have begun rusting in the same areas, on the "spot-welds" or "punch-welds" where the inner and outer fenders are welded together. A local Chevrolet dealership has physically inspected vehicle, and supposedly submitted repair estimate to general motors to see if company would repair. This occurred on Tuesday, July 26, but have heard from neither dealership nor general motors (mileage at time of estimate approx. 43,000).
Warped dashboard in my 2004 Monte Carlo, radio face also gets blistering hot, trunk lid open appears all the time on dash, too k to dealer, trunk lid fixed new dash installed 3 days later dash warped worse than before and both side pillars now cracked, brakes still noisy and pedal to the floor, dealer states normal. Scheduling for my second dashboard, and still no answers on why you cant touch the radio.
All dash gauges have failed (one at a time) including speedometer (which was the last gauge to fail on 7-21-08). Trunk release (electronic) failed. Have been told the only way to get dash cluster repaired is through a dealer. Dealer refuses to sell necessary part to a certified mechanic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While driving at approximately 35 MPH and making a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed but the floormat became stuck under the pedal. The contact could not stop the vehicle. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a boulder. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
Car part recalled. Got notice in July 09. Car caught fire because of part in sep 09. 2002 Monte Carlo. I was told that the car's warranty had run out! Part was just recalled this year. They just found out that the part is defective. Denied claim. 9 mo old and 3 yr old in car when it caught fire on expressway.
I was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 31st street and la grange highway when I noticed smoke coming from under the hood of my car. I pulled into the cit-go gas station thinking my Monte Carlo was over heating. Then, flames began to come from the under the hood. I immediately called 911 and the la grange park police and fire department came within minutes. They had to saw my hood open to put the fire out and I immediately contacted GM. They notified me that my vehicle is in fact a recall and was negligent in sending me the registered vehicle owner any sort of notice of recall. GM is denying fault and refuses to repair the vehicle or grant any sort of responsibility or compensation. Although they are responsible for the manufacturer defect they still refuse liability.
Our 2000 Monte Carlo supersport was parked and had been off for approximately 15 minutes. Before that, it had been driven for approximately 30 minutes and parked for about an hour. Someone came in to tell me it was smoking. There was a great deal of smoke coming from under the hood. We called the fire department and before they could arrive, the car was engulfed. While it was burning, we could hear it trying to start! There is nothing left of the front, engine compartment, or interior, except for the frames. Only the trunk area and right rear tire were untouched.
I have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo with 56,000 miles on it. It has been nothing but trouble. Have had alot of repairs on it. Now it has a popping noise in the steering column, and loud front end noise. I was told the steering column problem had a recall on it,because one of my friends Chevy impala had the same problem and theirs was fixed under recall. I contacted Chevrolet, they said there was no recall on my Monte Carlo. Seems if thre is a defective part on this model, GM should replace it with no charge .also, the frontend has had a very loud roar in it since we purchased it used with 12,000 miles on it. We replaced the tires, which did not help, and I was told the front hubs had defective bearings which did not have enough grease and could not be greased. My friend replaced the front hubs on their Chevy impala with improved hubs and corrected the problem. …
