Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Chevrolet K1500 owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
Drivers bucket seat frame broke while slowing to stop for traffic signal, seat dropped forward causing more pressure to be applied to brakes and vehicle came to sudden stop; truck has a problem with power seat adjuster that has excessive movement and popping under acceleration and during braking conditions, and going around sharp turns.
While braking the driver's side bucket seat broke at the left front mounting bolt/frame bracket under the seat. This caused the seat to have free movement in a rocking type motion while traveling/braking, and accelerating. Seats' free movement feels unsafe, as if just a matter of time until the entire base mount gives way.
Drivers side seat broke. When getting in and out felt as if it was rocking. When putting on brakes, seat swayed forward. Dealer contacted and seat not covered under warranty. Also the windshield wiper motor works intermittently and repairwork to be done at owners expense.
Bolts attached to seat frame have loosened and fractured, causing seatback to recline. Consumer claimed this vehicle had same defect as mentioned in recall 96e010000, but was not included in recall due to VIN. Please provide further information.
1. Mounting frame on the driver's side high back bucket seat fractured. 2. Driver's pot metal door handle fatigued until it broke. Several 1996 suburbans owned by the miami-dade fire rescue department have had the same problem.
My drivers seat had a little "play'" or rock in the base from the time I bought it until the base broke off. One of the mounting bolts sheared off on the front left corner of the base, allowing the seat to tip backward if you leaned back in it. It broke next to a weld in the corner of the base probably from heat stress and the constant play in the seat going back and forth. The dealer ordered me a new base frame which now costs over $220. Plus 2 hours of labor to install it. I pleaded my case that a seat should last longer than less than 4 years and 33K miles but it went nowhere. I also called GM and told them they were lucky that I wasn't going down the interstate at 65 and have the base fail and me laying in the backseat trying to drive! They said they wouldn't cover the replacement because they don't have a "history" of this happening. …
Seat brackets (frame) on driver's side broke. Metal very thin; not thick. Bolts let seat tip backwards when gas applied. Driver's vision obscured. Took to dealer. Informed owner of problem.
Drivers side seat frame broke, the bolt was attached to frame, and it broke off, causing the chair to rock. Vehicle seat has been repaired by reinforcing the frame with stronger welds.
While driving the bracket that holds the seat in place broke and caused the driver's seatback to collaspe, almost causing the driver to crash. The seat has not been repaired.
The bracket under the driver's seat is broken, causing the seat to have free movement. The seat is being repaired by the dealer. Dealer replaced lower seat frame.
