Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2014 Chevrolet Impala owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
I previously owned a 2011 Buick Regal and now have a 2014 Chevy Impala. Both vehicles have had a Stabilitrack warning come up. Both vehicles experienced the same issue. The car seemed to jerk, lag in speed, cannot accelerate over 40mph. The Regal was diagnosed with an electrical/wiring issue. The Impala was diagnosed with a failed Transmission Control Module. We now have a 2016 Impala and the same issue and warning lights have appeared. That's 3 vehicles we've owned from GMC with the exact same issue. This can't be a coincidence and should be looked into. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of more consumers on forums experiencing the exact same issue. This should be recalled! Imagine the possibilities of danger this can cause when on the interstate and can't accelerate over 40mph.
I have push to start car. On my lunch i starting my car and I immediately notice the rpm went to 2500, which is high and it went up to 3000 and then the warning light flashed stability track error and check engine and swerving light I took a pic. I turn car off and wait a few min turned car back on and it was fine. No errors drove to get lunch and back no issues. Then on leaving work s ame thing happened but the error didn't go away. I was able to shift out of gear. Hard knocking, gear shifter light all white no clue what gear it was in I moved to another parking spot but was slow moving very delayed. Parked and now waiting for tow truck
The 2014 Chevy Impala is dangerous. When the rocker arm control valve and related parts fail or the camshaft solenoids and sensors fail the car will drive rough and eventually just cut off in the middle of traffic highway or residential. This is what it did on me, putting me in a very dangerous position. The economic loss is still devastating financially as all 2.5 and 3.6 engines arent covered by GM special warranty but they should be all covered. My VIN number was not included when it should be.
Side detection system failure. I have had 3 harness replacements on driver side. 2 harness replacements on passenger side, and a module replacement just 2 years ago. This failure causes my instrumentation to shut off, turn signals not work, and shuts off cruise control when in use. I have read outher more extreme cases like engine compartment fires or car shutting off while driving. I believe all these should be considered safety issues. I have owned this vehicle since new.
There is a current recall on Chevy impalas with the trans mod control system but my vin number is not apart of the recall but my car is doing everything that recalls states. The recall number is 14V614000. The recall date 10-01-2014. My vehicle is 2014 and I have only had it for 2 years.
When at a stop and turning left it makes a grinding noise with hesitation in movement. The ABS and traction control light comes on. When researching this, there are millions of these cars with the same thing. I have taken to 3 mechanics and no one can fix the problem.
The electronic parking brake fails to disengage entirely from the rear brake pads causing them to become welded together. This results in extreme heat, excess brake dust, poor acceleration, and caliper / brake line (air) issues.
On 12/21/16 while merging onto interstate 10 in tucson, az, the vehicle was going approximately 65 MPH when a "engine power reduced" sign popped up, the vehicle slowed down to 30 MPH without warning and shifting down through all gears nearly red lining the rpms and causing an rear-end collision. Was able to move the vehicle off the freeway and took it into local auto-zone for testing. The test came back as a "throttle sensor malfunction". The vehicle now doesn't feel safe to drive, and will not accelerate over 45 MPH without shaking and feeling like the transmission is going to give out. Called the local Chevy dealership and was told the cost was going to vary between $400-1,000 with a $100 test fee up front. I've also read numerous similar issues online from people driving Chevrolet Impala from 2006-2016. …
Blind spot detection system began to fail, indicated by the side mirror indicators remaining on even after the car was shut off. Dealer service center diagnostic test showed the battery was old. The problem progressed to the point where the instrument cluster would also fail - all instruments (speedometer, tachometer, etc.) would go dead, virtually all warning lights (traction control, ABS, air bag, etc.) would go on, heating system (including blower) would go dead and turn signals and hazard light would be inoperative. All of this would happen while driving, whether in city traffic or at highway speeds. Although the main operation of the vehicle has not yet been affected, there is no way to signal other drivers of a problem (no hazard light or turn signals) in the event of a larger failure. …
Today is the second time in 6 months that my car has done this. 2014 Chevy Impala 62,000 miles, 4 cylinder. I was driving on the highway at 65 miles an hour and first the "service stabilitrak" warning comes up. Then the "engine power reduced" warning appears. The engine will not go above 20 MPH at this point. This is very dangerous especially if you are on the highway at speeds of 65 and suddenly you have no power! I took it to my mechanic who could find nothing wrong with the car. He told me to pull over and shut the car off and restart it. I did that and the check engine light is on but I did get my engine power back. I'm terrified driving this car. Someone is going to get killed in this situation. I read all over the internet about this same problem and nothing is being done about it. This should be a recall!
