What owners report
1. My daughter was driving her 2009 Toyota Corolla 4 door sedan and did not see a pickup truck stopped in the road waiting to make a left turn. She swerved, but not soon enough to avoid colliding with the truck. The Toyota Corolla sustained heavy damage to the driver's side front of the car (the car was totaled by the insurance company). There were no injuries to my daughter or her passenger. 2. There were multiple failures of safety equipment on the Toyota Corolla. First, the air bags did not deploy. The investigating police officer said that they did not deploy because the collision "missed the sensor". Second, and the failure that most concerns me is that the hood latch failed to prevent the hood from popping loose, thereby driving the hood backwards and breaking the windshield. I was appalled that the hood latch failed to secure the hood in the crash. 3. …
Tl contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that both the font driver and passenger door could be opened whenever the door was engaged in the lock or unlock position. The dealership informed him that all vehicles were equipped with that function. A voicemail message was left with the manufacturer. The contact had concern of the safety hazard and he is waiting for a response from the manufacturer. The current and the failure mileages were approximately 12,000.
I own a 05 Corolla xrs. I have had a problem with metal tearing issues. First one was the muffler bracket tore off and so my muffler was just hanging there. I had that welded at a muffler shop and it has fixed the problem for now. Second is my trunk latch, this is the part that is bolted to the body of the car that the trunk latches onto. This piece has completely tore out of the body, it has been rewelded a few times but it can't be welded anymore. I keep it tied closed and can't use my trunk. Now today 9-26-2007 is the last draw, the muffler bracket has completely broke in half and not were it was welded. I feel this is a very cheaply made car and will never buy a Toyota again. I am extremely disappointed and the dealer tells me it I out of warranty and they don't want nothing to do with it, I keep getting told to see a body shop. …
Tl contact owns a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The contact attempted to access the trunk manually with the key and interior trunk release mechanism; however , the trunk would not open. The dealer was notified of the malfunction; and the contact scheduled an appointment for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
On December 5, 2009, I could not get out of my vehicle through the front doors because I couldn't unlock the front doors locks (manually or electronically). I had to crawl and get out of the car through the rear door. Good thing this is a 4 door vehicle. My concern is that this could have been serious if the whole system shut down. This defect causes the doors to be inoperable. Now I am afraid to drive the vehicle feeling that I could one day be trapped and have to break a window to get out.
Tl contact owns a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the lock assembly failed on the passenger side door; he would be unable to either get in or out of the vehicle. The contact called the dealer and was told that they would repair it at his expense. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 63,911.
Interior door handles are plated with a chrome metallic plating. Metal plating is poorly attached and starts flaking off of plastic door handle. When metal plating starts peeling off, it is very thin and sharp. It has resulted in numerous fingers being cut / sliced open. One handle was replaced under warranty. Since the warranty ran out, the other three handles have flaked and peeled as well. In order to "fix" two of the handles, I cut and scraped any remaining metal plating off of the handles to leave only the ivory colored plastic handle. The third handle is getting to the point where I will need to remove the metal plating soon.
