Since we purchased our Pontiac Grand AM in April 2002 we have had several items fail that I feel should not have. The fuel pump and fuel relay? Failed at 6,000 miles, the window sash channels and relays have failed 3 times. Twice on the driver side and 1 time on the passenger side. The dash is peeling up at the base of the windshield close to the VIN# plate. The dome light bracket failed and the light no longer is on the interior roof. Cheap plastic bracket that will cost several hundred dollars to fix. The driver power seat has failed leaving the seat in the up position. The worst thing about all of this is that it has cost me several thousand dollars to have these items fixed and the car only has 41,000 miles on it.
Tl contact owns a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM. The contact stated that the front passenger seat adjuster does not lock in place. The seat rolls back and forth when the contact applies the brakes. She believes that this could place the passenger in harm's way because she assumes that the seat belt is not working properly either. She called the dealer and they advised her to apply oil or soap to the track of the seats. She obeyed, but the remedies did not work. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer. The current mileage was 43,696 and failure mileage was 35,200. Updated 08/29/07. Updated 02-01-08. Updated
My car has been in the shop repeatedly for the brakes grinding and shaking when I brake. The rotors have been replaced twice for rusting and warping and the brakes once, under warranty. I have had water leaks, my dash has been replaced for warping, 2 door panels have been replaced for warping. I have 2 more that need to be replaced, but the dealership says "it's a common problem, but it's not covered under the extended warranty". I have lots of wind noise. A rotten egg smell in my car when driving it. I took my car to the dealer last week and they replaced a gasket/seal for a intake gasket leak. I went to pick up my car and it reeked of gasoline. They kept it another day and had to replace my fuel regulator. Now I cannot keep my windows closed because there is a odor of gas in my car, which causes my eyes to burn and water and my throat to burn. …
I purchased my 2000 Pontiac Grand AM used. I've had it 3 years and have had break problems for at least 2 of the 3 years. My mechanic can not find any reason why I've had so many problems and when I spoke with Pontiac headquarters they informed me that since I did not have a documented case through a car dealership there was nothing they could do. I informed them that my private mechanic kept detail records but Pontiac informed me that even if I did use a dealership the problems I'm having are part of the normal wear and tear of a vehicle. My breaks have been grinding, squealing, thumping and now the whole front end is creaking. I've gone through several pairs of breaks front and back. I've gotten new rotors, have had the rotors cut. I've gotten new calipers but this still hasn't fixed my problem. At times I feel I AM riding in an unsafe vehicle. …
Bought a 1999 grandam have all these problems as of 2001.power seat wont work at all, found water in tail light assembly replaced various bulbs, and sealed unit, hazard flashing warning light switch works sometimes, power window on driver side didnt work ,then suddenly it started working and left rear won't work now, also ABS and trac lights stay on .sometimes ABS kicks in when I come to a stop.this car has been a lemon since I bought it.can't get these problems fixed out of warrenty.and do not have monet to fix.shouldn't have to if the car was design right.
This car saved my wifes life. But when I examined it, I noticed the paasenger seat didn't lock and hit the dash. The seat sometimes didn't lock, I didn't think it was a priority to fix fast. The car is a loss, but I will buy another. I AM now aware to fix the seat fast if it occurs on the next car.
