What owners report

When coming to or waiting at 4 way stops to turn left the car chokes and dies. This is very dangerous because sometimes I'am yielding to oncoming traffic. The diagnostic at the dealers cannot locate the problem because the engine light does not come on. Plus they charge me 50 dollers for diagnostic hookup fees since they cannot locate the problem. This apparently is common practice among many dealerships and is reffered to as double dipping since the manufacturer pays the dealership every time I bring the car in. The dealership and manufacterer accept no responsibility for this car however after fighting on the phone with them for weeks I have a suspision they know exactly what the problem is.

Filled gas tank to full, as exiting the gas station hit small bump car dead stopped. Was stopped immediately by the gas tank slamming to the ground lifting the car. The cars engine immediately shut down. Got out and looked at the car. Gas was leaking on ground (small amount) from the return line. Gas tank fill tube ripped out of car tank wedged in between car and ground stopping vehicle immediately. Had I been going at a faster rate of speed I could have been killed. The 4 corner straps are no way to hold a gas tank in place. I submit that improper materials and design caused the incident. You May want to look into this before loss of life occurs. Mounting straps should be non corrosive or made of superior material and not thin metal. I also submit that I have never heard of an incident like this before, not on a 15 year old vehicle.

I was driving to work and this car pulled out in front of me and I pushed the brakes and I slid into the car causing me to spin around and end up on the wrong side of the road. I have replaced the brakes every year and they still squeak really bad. The transmission has leaked for the entire time I have had the car. I have to replace the tires every 3 months and A/C went out 3 years after I bought the car. I haven't fixed the a./c compressor the cassette tape player stopped working after I bought the car and it's still broke. The bulbs in the lens of the light are very dim can't drive at night. I had to replace to rotors this year I still have them.

While sitting in the vehicle after driving 1.5 mi to get a Sunday paper, with the ignition off, the engiine burst into flames. I used two abc extinguishers to put the fir e out but it quickly dropped below the engine and headed for the gas tank. 911 was called and the fire dept extinguished the fire. Police also arrived and made out a report. I was told by my insurance agent that I had "one of those neons" that allegedly ran the fuel line along or in close proximity to the exhaust manifold, connected in locations by plastic connectors, one which apparently melted, causing gasoline to spray on an exhaust compnent causing the fire.r intent to have a long term investment in the Neon. My wife is handicapped, this was her vehicle to make her doctor appointments in and go to meetings associated with her disibility. We were completely stonewalled by all parties. …

I bought my Neon new. In three years the head gasket went and I am having problems with the fuel injection system and gas tank. Dealer says bad batch of gas has rusted out inside of gas tank and fuel injection system is also damaged. I am not a mechanic but to me this sounds very extreme. I would greatly appreciate any help you could be to me . Thank you for your time and effort. Sincerly, robert liples.

On my 1998 Plymouth Neon the fuel filler tube rusted away (I was able to see daylight when filling up with gas). The rust/road debris/water went into the fuel tank and was not prevented from going into the fuel rail & injectors causing the car to constantly stumble and display the "service engine soon" warning lite.

While traveling on the highway, the engine check light appeared on the dashboard and it was discovered that the vehicle was leaking gasoline, the manufacturer is aware of the problem. The consumer was told that the leak was from the head being warped and pitted due to the type of head use on the vehicle, the dealer was unable resurface it. The manufacturer denied that this is a common problem, and refused to take responsibiliy.
