The vehicle would not start properly. So I took my Aurora in to have it serviced and found out it was the fuel tank pressure sensor, which then I was told this defective part could have caused a fire. This sounds like a very unsafe part and I looked the part up and found out that it had been recalled at one point, just not on the my make of vehicle. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets killed.
The vehicle caught on fire from the gas tank. I had driven the car put gas in the car parked the car and it caught on fire. The fire men said the fire started from the gas system.. The car was parked in private parking lot running.
I bought a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora in 2003 being a single mother of 2 children I wanted a safe car with low repair I was told the 5 star engine is the best and low maintance I paid 15.900 cash for the car on the way home it was acting fun lights flickering gas pedal sticks and you can't push it down, then the gas gauge quit working oil was leaking all over hub in the front of car went bad I took it to the shop and it needed a oil sending unit, fuel sending unit front hub job, after another 1.700 in repairs now I am hold the head gasket is ready to blow and the gage says low oil pressure I had it back to the shop and they say they don't know what is wrong.then I ws rear ended at a stop and go light due to my head lights and tail lights going on and off. …

1998 Oldsmobile Aurora fuel rail system leaking gas out of the plastic lines on top of motor and can catch fire very easily if not cought in time. It has been recalled on the 96 & on the forums there have been alot of 97 & 98s that have been having the same problem. I have had mine changed and it cost close to $600 to have it fixed. Please take a real close look into this problem due to alot of people that have these cars are older or like me have 2 very small children straped into car seats. Thanks
Tl* the contact owns a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora. The contact observed a fuel odor within the engine. There were no warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the exterior brake lights and headlights illuminated independently without the engine being started. The contact had to remove the battery from the vehicle in order for the lights to remain off. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer, but was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel injectors, fuel pump, and spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact inquired if the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 04V110000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, there were no open recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 197,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while stopped at a traffic light, black smoke emanated from under the hood of the vehicle. Within 8 seconds of the contact exiting the vehicle, flames were observed coming from under the front wheel wells, and from under the hood. The hood melted, the engine was burned completely, the front axle melted to the point of preventing any movement of the front wheels, and the entire dash was melted. The vehicle was considered a total loss. Police and fire reports were taken. The fire department determined that the cause of the fire was a fuel leak. There was a NHTSA recall #04V110000 which pertains to the pipings and fittings to the fuel system. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
