Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2019 Nissan Altima owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

The airbag system failed to deploy during a collision. The vehicle is currently in not my possession. The airbag control module, sensors, and airbags themselves can be inspected to determine the cause of non-deployment. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My safety was put at significant risk because the airbags did not deploy during the impact. This increased the potential for serious injury to the driver and passengers during the crash, as the airbags are a critical part of the vehicle's safety system designed to prevent head and chest injuries. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. The vehicle has not been inspected by my insurance and considered totaled. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? …

NHTSA Online Complaint Vehicle: 2019 Nissan Altima VIN: [redacted] Recall: R25B1 (NHTSA Recall No. 25V-437) Description of the Problem: My vehicle is affected by recall R25B1 (NHTSA Recall No. 25V-437) related to potential bearing failures in the 2.0L VC-Turbo engine. Nissan announced this recall on June 26, 2025, but the status remains "Incomplete - remedy not yet available." I have contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and local dealerships several times, but they confirmed that there is no repair or parts available. Due to this unresolved safety recall, my state's DMV has refused to register my vehicle, meaning I cannot legally operate it. This delay has caused significant hardship and prevents me from using my vehicle, even though the recall involves a critical safety risk (potential engine failure while driving). …

I changed the Air Mass Flow sensor and it's still showing the check engine light on my dash board and giving me the same code after replacing it brand new. My brakes sound horrible after replacing both sets of brakes, front and back. The Foward Collision Warning sensor did not respond in a timely matter, resulting in a minor fender bender.

Please note that I have my car regularly inspected for oil changes and maintenance. The adaptive cruise control stopped working August 2022. The car displays "malfunction" on the dashboard. This was inconvenient and at first intermittent, but I did not think it was putting any persons safety at risk. I went to a local Nissan dealership in NJ and they stated it would cost $600 to replace, but no safety issues. Therefore I did not get this fixed at the time. On March 14 2023, I was merging onto a highway in daylight around 4pm. It had started flurrying, but no changes in visibility. There was no car immediately in front of me. The collision warning suddenly came on and the emergency brakes were activated while attempting to accelerate onto a 65 mph highway in NJ. It was extremely startling. …

I have a 2019 Nissan Altima SR 2.5. I have currently had the car for about 3 or 4 years now. For most of the time I have had the car, the check engine light stays on. I have had it tested, and it always states that it is the Mass Air Flow Sensor. When sitting in park idling, it will "malfunction" and state that the engine is reducing power. During this, the automatic emergency brake warning light and the VDC light will come on. It's rare that it happens while I am driving but it has happened. I recently had the vehicle checked again and again it stated that the Mass Air Flow Sensor and the Grille Shutter Actuator were throwing codes along with some other minor items. I purchased the MAFS and replaced it in hope that this would correct a lot of the idling issues, however after a few days of driving the vehicle, it again has started to malfunction and idle harshly. …

I was driving to work and all of a sudden the warning came on for the front radar malfunctioning. I have taken my car to the dealership where I get the oil changes and was told that Nissan would not cover it. I was told I needed a front distance bracket and quoted almost $800 for repair. The rep told me that the mechanic said I had a aftermarket bumper on my car and i explained that my car was in an accident twice in the months of april and may. but that should not be the reason of the problem because the light was never on my car when both accidents ocurred and after repairs. We are in the month of september why would it be on now? This is my only source of transportation and I feel for my safety with this car that something else could happen while I'm driving and I pray that it don't. The same day it started malfunctioning a small animal ran under my car. …

Automatic emergency braking · Sep 2021

The Automatic Emergency Braking System continuously brakes and slows the car down when driving. One particular incident happened on 6/15/2021 when I was travelling at 45MPH and there we cars behind me. The system beeped as if it detected a crash and then stop the car. There were no other cars in front on me and I almost got into an accident because of the sudden braking. There were no warning lamps, messages, or anything else that would prompt the vehicle to immediately break. It has done this 3 more times in the last two weeks and its hazardous to me and other drivers on the road. Now every time I put my vehicle in drive it says AEB malfunction and the vehicle no longer detects forward collisions or any passengers. I haven't taken the vehicle to the dealership yet; however, I had an oil change and when the dealer inspected my vehicle they said everything was in good shape. …
