Fuel vapor smell. Diagnosed as a failed hose at the top of the fuel tank (between the tank and the vehicle body). Service writer indicated that the problem was caused by flexing between the body and the tank and that, in his opinion, the design did not take the flexing into account sufficiently. There was a fuel leak, and the vehicle would have leaked significant fuel in a roll over.
The fuel rail burst while driving causing fuel to spray onto the hot engine resulting in fire, during repair of the fuel rail the dealer found that the water pump sheared off and replace the pump and pump drive belt, the dealer also found that there was no compression in 4 of cylinder, the timing chain failed causing valve damage, the dealer suggest the entire engine be repalced. I commute a long distance to work, when I can't fill up my gas tank and the engine light constantly comes on I don't feel safe. When it rains the car sometimes losing power and brakes. The tires and brakes have already been replaced. The following items have also been reolaced, seat belts, air conditioner, drivers side eletric window motor, the horn and more. Whenever I take the car to the dealership I am told that the engine light coming on is no big deal and the brakes and tires were normal wear and tear (the car was maybe a year to a year and a half old) they also told me there is nothing they can do about the gas tank not filling up. I am extremely dissatisfied and would like to know what I can do legally about it. …

Fuel door doesn't always open, halting fuel re-fill process, ocational fuel spill/over run. Fuel tank has been worked on two times by dealers. Fuel door has been worked on one time by dealers. Re-fueling problem seems to vary slightly by brand of fuel purchased. Oddly, slower fuel re-fill action doesn't really seem to make a difference.
Gas is leaking from the gas tank, and the smell is getting into the vehicle. When getting into vehicle and when driving, consumer can see where the gas is leaking from the tank. Consumer contacted dealer since gas tank was repaired before, and now the tank is leaking again. Dealer can't determine the problem.
