Takata recall needed on Infiniti FX35 2012. I was in motion, driving 75 MPH on the freeway. A piece of debris bounced off of a car in my left lane and flew underneath my car. Bang! My airbags ejected and slammed my face hard. My whole front windshield blew white. I couldn't see anything in front of me. Trying to push the airbag down with one hand, while steering with the other hand at the same time, I was essentially driving blind on the freeway with speeding cars all around me. On top of that I couldn't move, because the seatbelts locked me. It's a wonder I didn't slam on the breaks, or swerve into the other lanes, a perfectly natural reaction. I used my peripheral vision to move into the slower lanes to the right of me. The last lane ended up being the exit lane. When the four of us got out to examine what we thought would be a huge dent, we were shocked. The car looked perfect. …
Takata recall. I was driving my FX35 2012 Infiniti and the airbag spontaneously deployed and exploded. I did not hit any car or object, this was not due to an accident.... Just a deployment. It was a large boom, loud explosion, smell of a strong gun powder odor that burns your eyes. The airbag was torn. Please note that this happened as I was driving down a suburb street, no more than 35 MPH. I stopped the car right in the lane as I was in shock ....seeing no obstruction I pulled into the gas station a few yards up. Loud

My son sustained injuries to his face and arm/wrist. He describes the injuries to his arm/wrist as burns from the airbag deployment. I live 200-400 miles from any Infiniti dealer. Infiniti will not authorize the repair at my local Nissan dealership. The only option was to tow my car 200 miles to a dealer there and then tow it back. Obviously, if there were any issues following the repair...I would have to drive the 400 miles to have it resolved. This is not acceptable to me. Recently, my son needed to borrow my car and he lives close to the Murray Utah dealer so I called them to arrange the repair. They made an appt. for this weekend, denied a replacement vehicle and then said that the visit would only be to inspect and see if my airbag needed to be replaced. If it did, they would need to order the part and have the vehicle brought in when they had the part. They did not have the part in stock and could not tell me a time frame that the part would arrive. …
In feb 2016 when I saw the recall on the news for airbags, I called to see if the Infiniti FX35 2008 was recalled. I was told no recall the truck is fine. Now in July 2016 I receive a letter for a passenger airbag recall. Do you know if the driver airbag is being investigated? I'm curious to know, because my mom was killed in an auto accident, while she was driving the truck in dec. 2015. She had injury to her face, neck and more. What makes the passenger airbag inflate? Is it normal for the driver seat to come off the track? Thank you for you attention to this matter. Updated 12/04/17

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
