Was driving down the highway and my car caught fire. I was stopped by another driver saying that my car was on fire. I had no breaks to stop, I had to put it straight to park to stop the car. That way myself and my son could jump out of the car.

Okay, I'm going to try my best at explaining what I am experiencing. This is my SECOND Hyundai Accent. The first car I had was a 2004 Accent. The second car I have now is a 2015. Both cars have the same exact problem. And I am NOT fixing it. This is definitely a MANUFACTURING ERROR. It's so dangerous too, because my engine could just BLOW UP. Anywhoooo, both cars just BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I repeat, BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I need to check the oil every (at the most) 2 weeks because of how badly oil is just burning up. Also, there is a "Check Engine" code being thrown for something small in the EVAP System. Same cars, 11 years apart. Same problems!? I don't think that is right WHATSOEVER. I have researched ongoing recalls & expired recalls. To my disappointment, I find NOTHING. This is a MAJOR ISSUE. …

My 2015 Hyundai accent started having problems with oil consumption around 65000 miles. I got it checked regularly and the mechanic noticed it after it was having issues accelerating and losing power then cutting off completely. I had to constantly check oil each week or sooner. A couple months later it started losing power on high way and there was a clicking/ticking coming from engine. I pulled over and cut it off. Then drove it slowly (under 30 mph) to car store down the road to add oil but it was fine. Was able to get back home on back roads going slowly. Mechanic told me there oil consumption was a problem with these types of cars and likely causing engine problems. The whole time I had problems the check engine, battery, and oil light would constantly come on and go off. When they hooked it up to see why check engine light was on there were about 15 different codes. …

My 2015 Hyundai Accent started having issues with oil consumption at about 80,000 miles or so. I was having to check and add oil to the vehicle regularly in addition to oil changes. The oil consumption issue got worse as the vehicle got higher in miles, having to check and add oil every 600-1000 miles approximately. I was not aware of the known issue with Hyundai motors and the oil consumption so I was not tracking milage or dates of adding oil unfortunately. At about 100,135 miles, the vehicle suddenly broke down on my way to work. There was no warning other than the oil consumption problem. The car RPMs got very high and the car started decelerating until it wouldn't go forward anymore and was stalled on the side of the road. …

On [redacted] the engine in my 2015 Hyundai Accent suddenly failed while traveling on [redacted] near Milesburg, PA. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle completely stopped. It was able to be coasted to the side of the roadway, but was unable to be driven after that. It was towed back to South Williamsport to Steve Shannon's garage (where it still sits). After inspection by the mechanics it was noted that there was a hole through the engine (not from puncture) to where they were able to watch the pistons moving from underneath. There were no warnings or issues prior to this event. This event put my brother, sister in law and two toddler nephews in danger as they sat on the side of [redacted] waiting an hour for me to get there to pick them up, as they were borrowing my vehicle to take a family trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo. I believe the speed limit in that area is 65mph. …

I have a 2015 Hyundai accent with the 1.6l engine and have had to put on 3 catalytic converters in less than a year. The last one only lasting 1 month. I have taken it to a shop and had all repairs done there as well as having spark plugs changed and had the sensors replaced.

My check engine light came on and stayed on, while the oil light appeared when my car was in idle and the engine began to knock. My AAA approved mechanic determined that the engine had a rod knock and the oil pressure at idle was only 3 psi. In other words, the the engine had completely failed and would have to be replaced. At 36,000 miles !I had the car towed to the local dealership where they confirmed this diagnosis and noted excessive metal debris in the oil and oil pan. My research revealed that an identical engine manufacturing defect had resulted in a class action suit against Hyundai which was settled in 2018. Hyundai was forced to replace the engines with new ones and cover all the owners costs for 3.9 million complainants. They also suffered a huge fine by the NHTSA. …
