Purchased a new Honda RTL-E Ridgeline 3 days ago... Traded in a 2017.. Both have auto high beam feature.. The 2022 is erratic, at times fails to operate (engage the high beams even after surpassing the 45 MPH cut in speed. In addition to that, the high beams fail to remain on even when there is no oncoming traffic or fail to disengage etc.. This is not caused by ambient outside light or reflections off road signage, as I know how they worked and worked very well on my 2017.. The defective system create a major safety hazard as they almost always fail to turn off with oncoming traffic.. So drivers are blinded by High Beams and the driver of the Ridgeline expects them to turn off, hesitates expecting them to work before they realize they are not going to turn off... …

The automatic high/low beams do not work properly. The do not go to high beam when they are suppose to and they do not dim when they are suppose to. Any reflective device along the road will cause them to either dim or brighten. When an approaching vehicle is coming toward me the lights will not dim like they should and sometimes I will have to do it manually. This is a safety problem not only for myself but also for oncoming vehicles. I have had it to the dealership 5 times, they have replaced the light sensor at the base of the windshield and the camera behind the rearview mirror and have told me that this should resolve the problem but it has not as they continue to malfunction. There are numerous reports on line about the ridgeline having this problem and so far the dealership has not been able to fix it. They know they have the problem but they don't seem concerned about it. …

The auto high beam head light function on the 2022 Honda Ridgeline does not work as expected and is a safety issue. They do not always dim for oncoming vehicles therefore "blinding" the person in the oncoming vehicle. This could potentially cause an accident. Please note they will sometimes dim from glare on a road sign but not always from an oncoming vehicle. Basically the functionality is erratic and does not work as expected. This has occurred since I purchased the vehicle in 5/2022 but I do not drive at night that often but was recently on an out of town trip that required me to drive at night. I still own the vehicle and it is available for inspection if needed. When taken to the dealership on 5/1/2023, Priority Honda Roanoke indicated no codes were returned and they said nothing was wrong with them. …

The automatic high beam headlights do not operate correctly. When in auto mode, on a dark road with no other light sources, they will go to high mode for a second or two and drop back to low beam for no reason at all. they keep doing that at random intervals. They will go from low beam and go to high mode when cars are approaching within 100 yards. pretty sure the other car does not like that. they work fine when by passed by placing them in high mode by pushing turn signal stick forward. it's in the auto mode when they don't act right. i took the '22 to Couer D'Alene Honda and they checked them and said they were working as they were supposed to. this concerns me since i had a '18 Honda ridgeline and they did work fine in auto mode. i feel this is a safety issue for me and others on the road at night.

The automatic high beam system is very erratic. It fluctuates between high and low beam randomly on rural roads when it should be in steady high beam. It also randomly changes to high beam when oncoming vehicles are approaching causing the other driver to be blinded and flash their high beams. Vehicle has been in for service twice and the service center says the system is functioning as designed. I have a 30 minute video available which shows the erratic function as well as the high beam at oncoming traffic if needed. It is more than 3 GB large and exceeds your file limitations.. This is an ongoing problem that occurs whenever the automatic high beam function is activated. I only turn it on to get video documentation of the problem.

Courtesy and safety lighting installed to enter and exit car has never worked properly since the day of installation. It has caused me to slip on ice I could have other wise seen. had it been working properly. It broke within 30 days of the install. I've had Honda work on it 2 times under warranty and they could never get it fixed right. I feel they should refund money or repair it with light's that don't fail. Our Nissan has the same system and has never failed in 8 years of ownership. Please look into this and warn others of this malfunction of parts Honda is selling. [redacted]

The Automatic High Beams do not always turn off when an oncoming vehicle approaches. There seems to be an issue with the way the system operates in general. They do turn on when expected. They stay on when they should be off. They shut off when they should be on. Dealer states that they do not detect any fault codes in the system and can not troubleshoot any further. Dealer loaned me a 2020 CRV that performed as expected under the same driving conditions. There seems to be a lot of complaints on the internet over the past couple of years. Surprised that Honda has not fixed this safety issue. Thanks!

When in the automatic headlight setting, when it is dark, the high beams turn on and off constantly and highbeam oncoming traffic regularly. The safety issue is highbeaming oncoming cars making it difficult for them to see and making them really angry at me. I have had the dealer look at it multiple times, I have even taken the issue to American Honda. They claim there are no sensor issues reporting and they recently drove the vehicle at night and feel what it is doing is normal. I have a 4 1/2 minute video showing the lights turn on and off 20 times and highbeaming an oncoming car.

The auto headlight dimming is not functioning properly and blinds oncoming traffic quite frequently. This seems to be a known issue when investigated. It is a feature sold with the vehicle as standard equipment on this trim level. It is marketed as a convenience to assist with dimming if the operator misses the opportunity to dim for oncoming traffic. If I engage this feature, it rarely dims, and I am routinely flashed. It is concerning for the safety of the opposing vehicles, as well as road rage that could develop from not dimming for the oncoming drivers.

This vehicle has automatic headlights which turn off and on plus are supposed to automatically dim the headlights when oncoming vehicles approach. They automatic headlight dimming feature not only doesn't work properly, they go to bright (high beam) when cars approach, instead of dimming. I have taken it to a Honda Dealer twice for repair. They said they could not duplicate the issue but admit they have no real test for this problem. This is a serious safety issue which Honda can't seem to bother with.
