I started driving down a freeway side-road and as I approached a stop sign the brakes slowly went down to the floor. Using the regular brakes and the emergency brake I stopped without incident. I pulled over and found that the brake line had a large leak approximately in the middle and underneath the car. As I worked on replacing all of the brake lines one of the fuel lines also collapsed so I replaced all of the fuel and brake lines to be certain of their reliability.

I am the original owner of a 1999 Honda Accord (purchased new) with 57,400 miles. While traveling down hill in wet but not rainy conditions, my brakes failed. The pedal went all the way to the floor & I lost all braking power. I was not able to pump the brakes back up and there were no brake indicator or warning lights that came on. It was not an ABS activated system because the pedal simply fell to the floor. After the car sat for approx. 30 minutes, full braking power returned. There was also a burning smell, with a foul odor. When I took the car to an independent shop, no problem could be found. I was told it was a one-time occurrance. …

I was going down hill on a four lane highway in town and gave a signal to turn right onto a street. I put the brake on and as I was turning onto the street the brake pedal went to the floor. A truck was coming the opposite direction when I turne the corner and I turned left into some bushes and rocks to miss it. The police officer and the wrecker driver tried the brakes and said the brakes were out. I then had the car towed to the dealer to have repaired under warrenty and the service mangager said he could not find a problem. I picked the car up and had my brother in law drive the car home. The brake pedal went down on him before he got the car home. My son is an ase certified mechanic and repaired the brakes. He said the wheel had not been off the vehicle as the brake drums were still rusted onto the rear axle. …

The subframe, brake lines, fuel lines, and suspension, on the front passenger side, have all rusted out to the point of failure due to a poorly designed A/C drain hose. The dealer should have noticed this was a problem during any of the later service visits. Honda should take action on this dangerous situation.
