What owners report

There have been a number of recalls for the 2001 GMC Jimmy, mainly recall #01073a & b stating ext. Lighting brake switch/ no rear brake lights. I'm told that the service was apparently completed on my vehicle in 2002, but another recall came out in 2008 stating the same problem. GM Canada is refusing to do the necessary recall on my truck stating that it was previously completed and that my vehicle is over a decade old, so it's my problem. I won't be purchasing another GMC in the future due to this issue. My rear brake lights stop working and its the switch that needs replacing. Thanks for nothing GM! You just lost a long term customer over a recall part. Dec 2001 - recall #01V364000 May 2008 - recall #01V364 / 01073b

Loss of stop lights and rear hazard lights. This is the third occurrence for this particular vehicle. Each time I have had to have the multi-function switch replaced at a cost of $395-439. This defect is addressed in campaign # 01V364000 for 200 and 2001, but not my 1999. All use the same GM part number.

The daytime running lights go off whenever the turn signal is used. When the turn signal is turned off, the daytime running lights turn back on. I consider this a safety defect because to oncoming drivers and also people ahead of you it appears you are signalling them. This is especially pronounced in heavy traffic with many lane changes. Here in seattle, this May provoke an act of road rage as to the wrong person this light flashing could be interpreted as a hostile act.

The blinker sound comes on for no reason and stays on for random lengths of time. Tapping on the brake will turn off the blinker noise for a short time, but it comes back on often. I replaced the turn signal relay, but the problem remained.

1998 Jimmy · Hazard flashing warning lights · 95,000 miles · Sep 2004

The engine continually misfires. There is a TSB bulletin #00-06-04-003b. Deposit buildup on popped valve ball &/or seat, causing it to stick. There is a recall because of this but only in california. I live in alaska. I got an estimate of $1200 bucks to fix this problem. Because of this, I only get 5-7 mpg, and have little power. Also, my ABS light turns on and the ABS activates at low speeds on dry ground. My electrical system is totally messed up. My right clicker just the sound not light) goes off when driving. It is completely erratic and unpredictable. My speakers turn off and on sporadically. My driver side seat adjuster broke off with little pressure. My steering wheel continuously pulls to the right. This many problems in a vehicle is ridiculous. What a lemon. Especially since I have seen the same exact complaints all over this sight about this specific vehicle.
