Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Ford Windstar owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
My minivan was rear-ended by a speeding Ford f350 at a stop light. Fortunately I was the only one in the vehicle. My seat belt failed, impaling me onto the steering wheel. The rear window shattered, spraying glass cubes and shards all the way to the front windshield. The shards primarily stuck into the back of the rear seat making it look like a cactus. There are fine pieces embedded into the carpet and upholstery. I thought that "safety" glass wasn't supposed to do this. As for the seatbelt, I am still being treated for the injuries.
While vehicle was at a stand still it was rear ended.there was a child sitting on the second row of seats restrained properly in the seat belt.but when the collision occurred, the seat belts did not lock, throwing the child into the back of the front passenger's seat and then she bounced back into her seat.please provide any futher information.
When braking severely to avoid collision front passenger's seat belt failed to lock. There was no collision and passenger sustained no injury. Subsequently, all seven seat belts were tested by owner by violently jerking. All seven seat belts failed to lock when jerked. Local Ford dealer has been requested to inspect the seat belts.
Tl contact owns a 1995 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the driver and passenger seat belts are defective and no longer restrain the passengers. The dealer confirmed that the seat belts were no longer safe and the replacement would cost $400. The current and failure mileages were 140,000.
During impact the center seat/right side seat belt buckle broke, causing the seat belt to detach from the belt buckle. One person was injured in accident, the broken belt buckle caused a child to be thrown across the vehicle into side of vehicle.
Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at about 40-45 MPH. Upon impact the rear restraint buckle released, causing the child, who was restrained in a css, to be tossed forward, resulting in minor injuries. The manufacturer will be contatced.
I have just recently found your web site. The safty issue that I am concerned about is that the seatbelts in our Windstar and hundreds of other makes and models. The seatbelts in most cars will not lock into a non-expanding setting. I own a 1988 Chevrolet pickup that allows me to lock the belt into a non-expanding position. This is simply done by pulling the belt all the way out of the retractor and releasing it to the desired position. If the expanding mode is desired simply don't pull the belt all the way out. Every automobile should be eqipped with this style of belt, if so, when useing child safty seats, there would be not need for special clips. Also this belt is very much safer for children just out of child or booster seats. I can't figure why all autos are not using this t ype of belt! Thank you for your time.
1995 Ford Windstar lx with seatbelt problems customer states that the passenger side seat belt retractors no longer work* the consumer stated there should be a safety recall issued for this defect. The consumer created a temporary fix by attaching a clip to the anchor point. The consumer stated, when a person is propelled forward, the retractors are supposed to seize the seat belt and keep it from unwinding.
Transmission clutch piston has hairline crack. Causes transmission to jump into first gear from a stopped position. Rear brakes continually squeal. Right front brake intermittently locks up. Engine head gasket needs replacement. Front shoulder belts get tangled and twisted at the point where they feed through a metal d-shaped clip on the vehicle interior. Belt can't fully retrack.
Engine head gasket/radiator replaced, domn lights won't shut off, water in rear tail light, hood wont shut, airconditioning switch replaced, brakes making noise after being just replaced, didnt solve problem,. Seat belt seems loose.
