Tamara recall. My 2000 model Ford f150 was sitting in the driveway last night. It had been parked there since noon. At 11:10 last night, I saw flames coming from outside, and my trucks hood was completely engulfed in flames. Wondering what would make it catch on fire.
We parked our 2000 Ford f-150 truck in our driveway on Monday at 5:30 in the afternoon, and at 7:00 the next morning(13 hours later) it burned to the ground. Our neighbor was leaving for work and heard the tires explode, saw it was on fire and called the fire dept. . He also took pictures. I have called everyone, emailed, lawyers ,t.v., consumer agencies and of course Ford motor repeatedly. Because I had no insurance, there has been no interest. I still have the truck melted to my driveway. There was only 50,000 miles on it and we purchased it new. We have borrowed a vehicle and rented cars to get to work. We own our own business, and it has been a difficult time, especially since we cannot afford to purchase another car, nor should we have to as the average consumer does not expect their vehicle to go up in flames while they sleep. …
I noticted that the cruise control did not work around May of 2004. We were taking a long trip and when I would push the button the cruise light would flash on and then go off. After several tries I gave up on it thinking I would take care of it later. On the morning of 9/17/04 my wife moved my truck onto the street so she could goto work. That was around 7 am. At about 9 am I went out to the truck to leave and saw smoke coming out from the wheel well. I pulled the hood release and opened the hood. The fire was coming from the plug at the rear of the master cylinder. I grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it on the fire causing the flame to go out but it tried to reignite. I then unplugged the wires and it stopped arching. I took my truck to the mechanic who works for the department and he explained to me that it was a sensor for the cruise control. …
Our 2000 Ford f-150 had not had any previous problems. One morning it was driven for about 40 minutes, then parked in a lot. While in the lot, it caught fire (with not even a key in the ignition). We think it had maybe been parked an hour before it caught fire, but nobody knows for sure because someone else spotted it burning. Fire inspectors determined that the fire started in the engine compartment, and that there was no foul play. The fire appeared to start towards the front, and on the battery side. By the time someone noticed it and called the fire department, most of the engine and hood area had pretty much been torched. It was put out by the fire department and we considered it a total loss. We contacted the Ford dealer where the car was purchased, and the Ford motor company. Both replied that they were not responsible and unwilling to help in any way. 8jb
Our 2000 f150 pickup exploded after being parked for approximately 36 hours. The recall on the cruise control had supposedly been replaced at a Ford dealership a couple of years earlier. My husband and I were out of town at the time but fortunately my mother was home and heard the big boom and called 911 for the fire department. She then went down to our house and used a garden hose to keep the grass and surronding area wet so that our home would not catch on fire. The vehicle was a total loss but thankfully my husband wasn't driving it when it happened and my mom was at home to help prevent our house from catching fire also. We feel blessed that all we lost was the truck and not our home or life. The truck was in excellent shape and well maintained . This incident makes us wonder if the Ford dealership actually replaced the part under recall.
I got off work at 6:00 pm and went straight to the gym (approx. 1 mi.). I left the gym at 7:00 pm, and drove home (approx 1 mi.). I got home about 7:15 pm and went inside and watched television with my family until 8:30 pm, which is when I went to bed. My wife and I woke up at 11:30 pm from a bright light coming through our bedroom window. When we looked out the window the light we had seen was the whole front end of my 2000 Ford f-150 engulfed in flames. We called 911 and the fire dept. Responded. My wife's car a 2002 Hyundai accent was parked in front of the truck and had the rear bumper and tail lights melted on it before I could get it moved. About 1 year ago I had to have the mass flow air sensor replaced on the truck and the dealership supposedly took care of the cruise control recall that was placed on that model.
