Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

Interior panel lights will dim and flicker, headlights dim, radio will lose power, cabin fans for air conditioning will slow then the engine dies. This can happen while idling or driving at highway speeds without warning. When the engine dies all power steering is lost and braking and control is extremely difficult. After stopping the gear shift will not move into park and the key will not move to the off position for several minutes. Diagnosis narrowed this down to the TIPM. It was replaced and the issue stopped for 6 months then reoccurred. TIPM replacement again fixed the issue. Obviously the TIPM's have a defect and has been widely reported. Major issue is that only remanufactured TIPMS are available from the same defective build. Dealer charges over $1000 for the part and more to install it. …

When I'm driving my blinkers and windshield wipers turn on and off randomly and the stereo shuts off ac quits working and the windows lock and can't be rolled down and when I'm at idle it has very loud ticking noise coming from dash board I think it's the middle area behind stereo this happens multiple times a day and some days it doesn't stop till vehicle is turned off and I've also noticed that hitting bump in road seem to make the issues worse all of the above mentioned happens together at same time

The headlights go out intermittently. It has done it while driving, both on streets and the highway, or parked in the driveway. While investigating this issue, I have found, on your site and others, that this problem is not a new occurrence. This bothers me that just because no major injuries have been attributed to this problem, that this safety issue has not been addressed. We took our van to our mechanic who told us he could try to replace the headlight switch, which we have done, but we need to try replacing TIPM, but at a price tag of $600-700, it is still not a guarantee and it is on national, or from the words of a person at the dealership - galactic, backorder with no date as to when to expect the part to be in. We called a local dealer to find out who to complain to and we were told we needed to verify the part was on backorder, which we did and it is. …

The headlights intermittently work, but mostly do not light up whether turning on the headlights using the main switch. When attempting to turn on the headlights, the lights will flicker several times and then go out. My wife was driving home from the grocery store and the police pulled her over and asked why she was driving down the interstate at night with her headlamps off. My wife noticed, but thought a headlamp had burned out. My wife setup an appointment at a experienced mechanic who shot the wires and did not identify any issues with the headlamp switch assembly or the wires. We have an appointment with Dodge dealership in a few days, however, reading online this is a problem that could entail a circuit deficiency within the total integrated power management (TIPM) module. …

The headlights will come on and blink a few times and then go out and not come back on (sim and brights). Took to the dealer and they said they could not recreate the issue so nothing was wrong with it. Can cannot be driven at night or inclement weather. It has happened when stationary, driving through a neighborhood slowly, and when going down an interstate at 70 MPH. When that happened other cars could not see me and I couldn't tell where the side of the road was to get off safely. When I made it to the shoulder I had to swerve back into traffic because luckily my eyes adjusted some and was able to see a bridge railing coming up. If not we would have hit it at about 60 miles per hour. I have read endless reports about this happening the same way and many believe it to be the TIPM but no dealer or mechanic could give a definitive answer of what was actually causing it. …

Beginning September 2017 to December 2017 (present): multiple issues related to electrical: (1) engine stalled while driving at 30 MPH (city street, driving straight), and lost power steering and brakes; (2) electrical system warning light has been coming on from September 2017 to December 2017 (present). Light often comes on when power window buttons are pressed; battery has been checked; alternator has been replaced twice (!) in December 2017 and warning light still comes on; (3) windows roll themselves down when vehicle is not running; this happened multiple times in winter and cold weather, there is no chance the window was left down by the driver; (4) head and tail lights blink when vehicle is not running; (5) rear seat power outlet not working; (6) rear defroster not working; (7) side mirror defrosters not working. Research into others with similar problems suggest defective TIPM.

I purchased this vehicle in April 2015. On 08/13/2015, I was driving late at night on interstate 5. Both headlights unexpected flashed on and off, then stopped working completely. I pulled to the side of the freeway and attempted to get the headlights working by jiggling the light switch, but nothing worked. The side marker lights and fog lights did work, so I used those so I could get off the freeway until daylight. Since that date, it has happened three more times. One time, it occurred when I simply hit the remote door unlock. The headlights started flashing, then went off. I was unable to get the headlights to turn back on by manipulating the light switch and had the use the parking lights and fog lights. It does not appear to be caused by a faulty switch. This is an extreme safety hazard. I have read numerous reports online that this is not a rare occurrence.

Similar to other reports; vehicle will randomly lose power and/or stall. It has happened at slow speeds, stopped at a light, and even on the highway going 70mph. Have to take key out of ignition, wait a few seconds and turn back on and car starts up. Also now having issues to turn on. Lights on dash will blink and dim; radio shuts off; ebs, anti lock brake, engine light all begin to blink. Idle needles gets low. Power brakes lose function. We have owned the car since March 2016, car has 56000 miles. Taken to dealer a few times where the PCM was changed and issued not resolved. Changed faulty pulley on belt system and issue not resolved. Computer does not come back with any codes. Local mechanic checked for starter, alternator, ignition switch issues and all showing good. Vehicle is not part of Dodge recall of other 2010 that are having exact same issue.

I recently purchased a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. The car shuts off on me while driving . It will start back up after you put it in park and turn it back on but it just shuts off . It shut off on me twice on the highway with my kids in the car and four times while driving in the city.it makes this weird noise when turning left and the lights are flickering on and off. If that's not enough the doors seem to just open and close on there own the trunk shut on me while I was getting groceries out. I brought the car into the shop and they said they can't duplicate the shutting off and claimed they fixed the door opening in it's own problem .well the doors continue to open and now they are hard to open with the key and you have to manually open them . This is a safety concern and the dealer is claiming there is nothing wrong please help me.

I have had my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan for 1 year. First the alternator went out then the key module then the transmission then the shifting harnesses cable and now the lights keep blinking on and off and the van feels like it has no power the battery was just changed a month ago. This has been the worst vehicle ever and we are scared that it is going to cause a deadly accident. The vehicle gets stuck in gears. And and now keeps shutting off and the headlights keep blinking on and off as well as all the lights in the van. If these are know issues why has there not been a total recall on all these vehicles before a deadly accident does happen. Or is it going to take someone to actually die before something is done about all the known issues the makers of these vehicles are aware of.
