We purchased the vehicle on 05/20/13. The light that warns of an air bag problem was on. We took it to feeny Chrysler,Dodge Jeep in gaylord michigan on 06/10/13. They found that mice had chewed some of the wires. They repaired the wires and removed some mouse nests that they found. However the air bag light was still on and they said we needed a new air bag module. We dropped the vehicle off again on 06/26/14 to have them check the air bag light again. This time they put a new module in and the light was still on, indicating that there was no communication to the module. So, they ordered another module and installed it. When that one had the same result,(the module not communicating), they called Chrysler for help. They then went into the dashboard and found a pinched wire, fixed that and now everything works. …

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

NHTSA investigation EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · open

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
