What owners report
On August 1st, my '24 Z06 unexpectedly caught fire after a short evening of driving - 7 miles to dinner, 7 miles to a store, then 2 miles to drop my wife off at the grocery store. I was heading to refuel when the fire started. The car was in Sport Mode, so the fans were running. Thankfully, we were able to put it out. GM sent three inspectors, including an independent expert who noted that most fire cases he sees result in the car being reduced to a blob. On August 28, Scott Bell (VP of Global Chevrolet) told our dealer he would expedite a replacement. We placed the order - but the following week, GM reversed course, claiming the fire was caused by "non-car material" and not their responsibility. Meanwhile, our insurance company determined the fire originated from the gas vent system. …
On July 1st, I had a defect in the electrical system of my Corvette nearly causing a major accident with several cars and trucks due to a immediate and unexpected loss of engine and propulsion. I was driving about 75 mph on highway in busy traffic. Car randomly and without any human input - flashed a false alarms for an open hood, although the hood was actually latched and perfectly closed. Alarms stated "close hood now, speed limited to 25 mph". Due to the fault, the car lost all ability to accelerate and quickly lost speed. As the car was going 75 at time of the alarm, the car QUICKLY dropped speeds without any brake lights due to the false fault. I could not accelerate to keep safe speed to get to the breakdown lane. The car immediately would not respond. The semi truck and cars behind me nearly rear ended me, which I had to quickly move lanes to avoid. …
Bad smell of gas while parked in garage. Looked underneath and was leaking fuel. Looked online early c7 corvette 15-18 has a special recall for the fuel receiver and tank because it was leaking. Gm actually extended one of the warranties because of it. Brought my car to the dealer and said it's not covered under the extended warranty that gm gave. I was 18 days out of my bumper to bumper 3yr 36k miles and gm agreed to pay 90% and me 10%.
Can smell gas fumes after filling gas tank. Had independent shop analyze problem and codes indicated a cracked fuel pump module. This is a serious hazard because fuel can leak onto exhaust or heat shield and cause a fire. GM currently has a Special Coverage Program #17469 for 2014-2017 corvette. My 2019 corvette has the exact same issue and should be covered under Program #17469. My corvette has only 23000 miles.
My vehicle is covered by GM Special Warranty 17469 which relates to cracks and fuel leaks at the primary fuel pump module flange. It caught fire while driving at a high performance driver's education event at Barber Motorsports Park and was denied coverage due to it having modifications. GM case number 9-15085163081. There were no warning messages displayed at any time during the incident. GM had the vehicle inspected by a "neutral" third party which turned out to be a retired GM service center instructor. None of the modifications on the vehicle affect the fuel pump module flange. This is in violation of the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. …
Fuel smells after filling up seems like there is a leak, received a letters from manufacturer but miss placed it, when we found it it was over the mileage limit. Now they will not fix the safety issue.
There is a strong gas smell when my vehicle is parked in the home garage. The smell is very strong on the rear tire area on the driver's side of the vehicle. I contacted Gunn Chevrolet and will drop the car off 8 September 2023. There are no warning lights for this issue on the vehicle. There are several bulletins on gas leaks on C7 corvettes. Here is one bulletin: [redacted] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6
